Anika is such a talented artist! And not a bad business woman, either. She was immediately accommodating to my requests, and I received my painting tout suite. And about the painting...I have been looking at this few a while, finally bought it. So glad I did; it is so much more beautiful in person! Love it.

The Creative Subconscious

It was seventh grade when I won the coveted $100 prize for a science project I did on biofeedback, testing the effects that seconds of imagery could have on a person’s mood. I learned what calmed them, what thrilled them, what stirred and relieved the heart. But with more excitement for my newfound riches than my scientific findings, I never suspected that tri-fold board would have anything to do with what I do now.

After a long string of denial, pantyhose and office jobs, nothing felt right except the creating of things I did in my free time - the seemingly little things that were born from my own mind and made with my own hands. Armed solely with this revelation, I leapt off the corporate ladder and made the promise to commit to a path of creativity. I've found there's no such things as autopilot here. It's less about taking the interstate and more about exploring cobbled, winding, fascinatingly unexpected pathways. It could be said that my career life has taken the scenic route: from advertising writing, interior design and artwork, to clothing design, retail ownership and wholesale production. Each avenue proved to be an art in its own right - and so far, chasing the white rabbit through these very different wonderlands has only proven that I love them all.

Most of my ideas are born from dusk to dawn, when the day's distractions are sleeping and the subconscious has free reign. I welcome the stream of elusive ideas, waking up energized to make some version of what I've seen. Maybe this is why I prefer working with materials I can’t completely control, such as rusts and patinas achieved through chemical reaction, natural wood grains, the randomness of wildflowers, and untamable creatures. Science and nature are brilliant things and I like to give them their space.

This particular shop is a landing place for the one-of-a-kind pieces I've made - an incubator for new concepts, experiments and little hatchlings. These are the babies of inspo and restlessness, lucid observations and vivid, wild dreams.
