Inspiration follows desperation to become connection.
My new studio is in a former cowshed. When I first saw it , it looked like the cows had just left, but the farmer assured me that he would fix it up beautifully - insulated, painted white, with lights, electricity and water. Desperate for a place to work I believed him and waited patiently for the work to be finished.
A public walking trail goes past my door and I can see the walkers with their back packs and stout boots tramping by. Beyond are fields of hay, wheat and barley, cows and sheep.
I work alone, but I don't feel alone as there is a sculptor in the next stable and two hand book-binders across the way. Peter the farmer drops by to say hello, and often John my husband comes by on his bike.
I work in silver and enamel, two of the most beautiful materials in the world. Silver is a gorgeous metal, forgiving and friendly to construct my pieces in. Enamel can be temperamental but if you are patient with it, it gives back in spades.
Patterns and textures are a huge inspiration to me. I look for them everywhere - on walls, on floors, on papers and fabrics, in books and magazines, in metalwork and woodwork and stonework, in flowers and plants and fields and trees. Anywhere and everywhere I collect and draw and photograph and remember them.
Since opening my Etsy shop I have had customers from many parts of the world which is lovely and makes me feel connected to a community of people who love handmade art.
More than anything I want my customers to be happy with the jewellery that they buy from me. Jewellery is precious for many reasons, but you can't treasure something you are not happy with. So the only rule I have is that the customer must be happy, whatever that takes.
Owner, Maker, Designer
In 1963 my kindergarten teacher reported that I was good at making things with my hands. Over the years I tried a lot of other careers but eventually came back to 'handwork ' in 1999 and have been happy making jewellery ever since.
All my pieces are made by me in my studio using a variety of techniques. I am a stickler for quality and I am proud that my work is finished to a high standard. My enamel jewellery is very time-consuming to make which means it is expensive, but my pieces are original in design, very well-made and will last for years so you can have no doubt that they are a very worthwhile purchase for yourself or as a gift.
Accepted payment methods
- Accepts Etsy gift cards
- Other Method
I also offer a payment plan for customers who wish to spread out payments for a piece over several months.
I realise that my work can seem expensive so I want to make it as easy as possible for my customers to enjoy it. I can split the price into several payments and we can set up a timetable of payments to suit you.
Please note that I do not ship the item to you until it is paid for in full, but once the first payment has gone through that piece is reserved for you.
Shipping is included in the price for all UK orders.
UK orders are shipped by Royal Mail First Class.
International orders are shipped by Small Packet Air. If you want a faster method of shipping I can ship by Airsure for an extra $10 on top of the normal shipping rate.
Shipping prices are the same whether one or two items are shipped.
INTERNATIONAL CUSTOMERS: please be aware that you are responsible for all Duties and Taxes charged by your country.
Refunds and Exchanges
If the item is not what you expected I accept returns for a full refund including shipping. Please notify me within seven days that you are returning the piece. I would appreciate the item being unworn, in original condition and in original packaging.
If you ordered a custom item and it is not what you expected I may take it back but it will be on a case by case basis, please contact me as soon as you can.
Additional policies and FAQs
If you see a piece you like but want the pattern or colour from another piece I can usually do that to order. In fact if you have any ideas about what you would like, based on what you see in my shop please don't hesitate to ask.
Made to order items generally take one to two weeks before I can ship them, though depending on my work load I can often get them out sooner.
NEW! I can now offer certified 'ecosilver' to my customers. This is silver that is guaranteed 100% recycled. Please ask about ecosilver when you place a custom order.
