Announcement   After a short time away Annaig's Gemstudio will re-open soon!

Welcome to Annaig's Gemstudio! All my jewellery is made with solid sterling silver & gold, natural gems & pearls. As a qualified gem-cutter I also cut, touch up & polish my gemstones (I am fussy like that!)

As I work exclusively with natural gemstones and pearls sometimes you may see some colour difference, marks or inclusions within the material used. It is Nature's way of telling the story of how the gemstone or pearl came to be and is by no means a sign of defect.

I only use genuine sterling silver or gold alloys! No Nickel here, so you will not have any bad reaction to my jewellery (I have allergies too so I wouldn't be able to use it in the first place!)

Whenever possible I use recycled silver and gold alloys manufactured in Sydney. This is my way of supporting a sustainable practice and be more environmentally friendly, less mining, less transport and fair trading so everyone wins!

Happy shopping!

About

From Paris to Sydney for the love of gemstones

My name is Annaïg (before you ask it's a somewhat unusual name from Brittany where I come from and taken from the old "Breton" language meaning little Anna which is a bit easier to remember). I am a professionally trained gem-cutter from Paris now happily living in Sydney.

My love affair with jewellery started when my grand mother took me to a jewellery exhibition showing collections by Cartier, Van Cleef and Arpels, Boucheron... When we came back home I told my Mum I wanted to make crowns for the kings and queens! As you can see the idea stuck! I did my gem-cutting apprenticeship in Paris working for all those prestigious companies that inspired me years ago. While I haven’t worked on any crown (yet) I did work on several pieces worn by a few royal family members and that’s rather nice!

I established my gem-cutting business in 2002 in the heart of Sydney and started to make my own jewellery shortly after. I began making jewellery to wear myself as I couldn’t find anything I liked enough to buy. Friends started to ask me to make pieces for them as well as for presents and it grew from there.

For me jewellery is an emotional thing. It catches the eye, draws the hand to touch it and look at it from all angles before it enters your heart.

I use my 20+ years experience to carefully select gemstones and pearls that I use to create elegant understated designs. I like my gemstones to be the hero of my jewellery. As a gem-cutter I am not limited with a standard size or shape which gives me a lot of flexibility and options to truly create unique pieces.

I only use genuine material (gemstones, pearls, sterling silver and gold) sourced from legitimate suppliers based here in Australia. Whenever possible I use recycled sterling silver and gold (all the bits and pieces left over from production are cleaned, refined then melted to give me fresh new metal!)

I am one of the lucky few doing what I love to do every day. I hope you will enjoy wearing my jewellery as much as I did creating it for you!

Welcome to my Etsy shop!

Originally from France I began my gem-cutting career as an apprentice with the most prestigious jewellers of the “Place Vendôme” such as the renowned Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels and Boucheron houses. In 1993 I came to Australia to create a gem-cutting workshop for a gemstone wholesaling company in Sydney. Shortly after I began studying for a Bachelor of Applied Arts at the College of Fine Arts, University of New South Wales and graduated with Honours in 2001. There I developed and adapted printing techniques for jewellery purpose and began working with versatile materials such as porcelain and resin. More than 25 years experience are applied on a day to day basis to create individual jewellery for each client at the Studio.

Frequently asked questions

Custom and personalised orders

Most items I make can be personalised. Please contact me with any request.

Sizing details

When ordering a ring please provide your exact finger size. Please make sure it is the finger (and hand) you want to wear it on as sizes vary from the left to right hand!

It is the customer responsibility to provide an accurate ring size.

Plain silver rings can be resized for a small fee. Rings with a gemstone will require a higher cost due to the need to unset & reset the gem.

If you are not sure of your size I recommend visiting your local jeweller to be measured.

Alternatively you can purchase one of my re-usable ring sizers. The cost is redeemable when you purchase your ring.

Sizing details

Some of my necklaces can be made in various length. Please make sure you select the correct one.

If you would like a different length not in my default options please contact me with the exact length including clasp so I can make a custom piece for you.

Please note it is not always possible for all necklaces but I always try to find a solution for you.

Care instructions

Sterling silver oxidises over time. I recommend using a silver polish cloth rather than a liquid cleaner as they can leave a residue and can damage pearls or affect some gemstones.
