About

Art that speaks for itself

Hello! I’m Annie, a 27 year old, full-time Wildlife Artist.

People often ask me how and when I discovered art, but I firmly believe creativity is in all of us, it’s what makes us human. From early cave paintings to the Great British Bake Off! We use it in different ways, and for different things but it’s always there. I don’t see it as a discovery waiting to be found, it’s a constant quiet companion.

Aged 17, I was given a book by Christophe Drochon, a wildlife artist. His work is so beautiful and lifelike, the detail is stunning – I was completely blown away.

Wildlife Art became my passion, teaching myself how to do it became my life. It took a long time to develop the skills required for the style of painting I wanted to achieve, I wanted my work to look as real as possible. As though the animal were in the room with you. To paint them larger than life, and with a level of detail you can’t see in the flesh.
(You could try, but Tiger’s aren’t keen on being studied up close.)

I wanted to produce work that required no explanation, that spoke for itself.

Now, 10 years later, my work has improved vastly. Through trial and error by learning new techniques, and using the best quality materials. I learnt which brushes produce the most realistic hair-like strokes (a watercolour brush, incidentally), and what surfaces work with the detail, rather than fighting it.

In the last few years I have also started self-publishing my prints, managing each stage of the process.
Everyone involved in the production is a Fine Art Trade Guild member, which means have to adhere to certain standards. The inks are lightfast, and tested by the guild every year. The mounts are Conservation Level, so they won’t leave any marks or colouration on your print. And finally they’re all wrapped in museum quality polythene, keeping your print safe until it’s framed.
They each come with a Certificate of Authenticity, so you know you’re buying the real deal.

I’ve done all the boring research into materials for you, so you can be assured that my prints are made to last.

I’ve decided to open an Etsy shop as I want to have the opportunity to sell my prints directly to you guys! Without the time and money required for a physical gallery, Etsy is the natural choice, full of creative people sharing products, ideas and inspiration.

I discovered wildlife art through the books of David Shepherd and Christophe Drochon, beautiful life-like work, and it struck a chord. I wanted to paint realistic, highly-detailed oil paintings, so life became all about teaching myself to paint.
