About

Old and antique items should continue to be loved and cherished.

I love restoring these forgotten, neglected and battered items. They are thoroughly cleaned, holes are darned, ribbons replaced, and buttons sewn on. They are then ready to be appreciated and/or worn in the 21st century.

The women that spent much time and care making these underthings and accessories decades and decades ago would be delighted to know that they live on, and are able to have a new lease of life. Those women believed back then that clothes should be well made, taken care of and treasured. They would have been appalled by the throw away society that we now live in. I certainly am, so feel very pleased to be fighting against the tide... even in a very small way.

I am a thirty something longing for the 1800s. The 21st century is a mystery to me, and I dream of pony and cart jaunts down English country lanes, ending the day with a book by George Eliot or Jane Austen.

Thank you for looking around my shop. Here you will find original/antique clothing, underpinnings, accessories, and nightwear. Some have been restored, whilst others are either too old or too precious to do be altered or laundered (these items are listed as 'Collector's Pieces'). Those that are restored have been gently laundered, restored, and repaired, using conservation quality products and techniques, so they are all ready for you to wear and enjoy.

Please feel free to ask any questions; I love what I do, and can happily chat about historical clothing all day!

***I reply to emails, or etsy convos well within 24 hours, but please do note that Sunday is normally my day off.

In each listing I will state how I have restored each item; what new buttons or ties were added, and where/what repairs have been undertaken.

Should you need further details or photographs about an item, please contact me, and I will happily assist.

Measurements: these will be clearly given in each listing, and it is the customer's responsibility to check these with their own body measurements if the clothing is intended to be worn. Please check with me if you are unsure.

Historical Context: I research each piece, and try to give as much information as possible; I try to date to around a decade or so. These are considered estimates- if you don't think that I have something quite right, do contact me, I would love to discuss your ideas!

How to Care for your Antique Clothing:
In each listing I recommend how the item should be laundered, if appropriate to do so. When it comes to storing your items, they need acid proof, unbuffered tissue paper, and also an acid free box. Ideally this needs to be kept in a dark room with as constant a temperature as possible (not lofts or conservatories).
If you hang any items, then an unbleached calico bag placed over the top is perfect.

Shipping
I ship 2-3 times a week (there are no set days). When you purchase an item I will be in contact with you to let you know when I plan to ship it. I will then confirm when it has gone off in the post. I normally ship within 1-3 working days.

I post my items via Royal Mail, which keeps my postage charges very reasonable, (but does not include tracking). So far this has proved a very efficient way to get orders to their destinations, but if you would like your order to be tracked, please let me know before you purchase. This will cost extra (around £5 for international purchases).

A note about postal arrival times: items take around 7-14 days to reach the USA and Canada (for example). In the winter with the snowy weather though, it may take longer. During the winter I have also found that post to the west side of the US can take up to 4 weeks to arrive- I can only guess that this is due to poor weather conditions. If your order is taking longer than you anticipated for it to arrive, please do contact me. I am here to help! :)

PLEASE do your homework before buying...you may have extra costs to pay due to customs.
Refunds and Exchanges
After lovingly restoring these items, I would hate for them to be thrown in the corner of a wardrobe if they are not suitable for your needs! Therefore, if you are unhappy for whatever reason, you may return the order to me for a refund. However, this must be within 14 days of having received it. Please contact me with any queries as soon as possible. The cost of postage and the item price will be refunded once I receive the returned item(s). The cost of return post is to be met by the consumer.

Disclaimer:
I am human, and as such may occasionally miss something on an item. If you feel that something was omitted from the listing details, and you would like to send the item back, again please contact me and we will work something out.
Additional policies and FAQs
