Keeping the Past in the Present

Since high school, in the 70's, I have been an avid collector of vintage housewares, furniture and clothing, with a special interest in Mid-Century Modernism. That period, which spans the 40's and 50's, brought forth designs that were elegant, dignified and what are now considered classic. And they last. So many of the functional pieces from this time period were well designed and built to last. 50 or 60 years later these beautiful items still work. As we age and consider retirement in the not too distant future, downsizing is number one on our to-do list. Enter Etsy. I began my Etsy adventure in September of 2010. It has been a wonderful experience and I have "met" so many interesting people.

I am also an artist, avid gardener and conservator of nature, providing habitat for all manner of species that wander onto our little paradise in the middle of the cornfields.

My other shops are CynicalGirl and CynicalGirlAnnex. These shops stock vintage patterns. I blog about sewing over at

Thanks for popping in. Apple Charlotte is a reference to a dessert made in the E. M. Forster novel, Howard's End. It inspired me to hunt down a Charlotte mould, which I did, and promptly made that dessert, and, of course, the more famous Charlotte Russe. Yum! My shop harbors almost 40 years of homekeeping accouterments collected from a bygone era. I make things too. No idle hands here.

I have opened a second shop called CynicalGirl to house other bits that would get lost in AppleCharlotte. Please visit CynicalGirl for bobs and bows, ribbons, patterns, hankies and, well, the little things.
