Announcement   Handcrafted antique-inspired jewelry and accessories.

-----------------------------

Although most of my listings show one item available, I typically have the supplies in stock to make several, so if you would like several sets for a special occasion, please don't hesitate to ask.

I am inspired by many moods which wax and wane, often loosely corresponding to the seasons, and a style of creation to go with each. Sometimes nostalgic and romantic, sometimes organic and earthy, sometimes edgy and darkly twisted. Thus, you will find many differently themed pieces in my shop, but the unifying characteristic is that they are all made with care and a unique piece of the passion I am feeling at the time of creation.

Thank you for visiting!

This is a beautiful hair comb. Unfortunately, it doesn't hold my twisted up hair very well--the tines are too short. I'll have to use it in another way.

About

A Return to My Original Passion

Like most of us here at Etsy, I've simply always liked creating things. I started drawing just about as soon as I could figure out how to work a pencil. As a child, most of my efforts were directed toward oil painting, but I also enjoyed making sculptures and random trinkets like accessories and beaded head pieces.

After working as an airbrush artist for a few years following high school, I decided to go back to school to follow my other passion - learning about how and why our universe works. Several years of study ensued and before I knew it I was pursuing my PhD in physics from the University of California, Irvine.

Any PhD student will tell you how essential it is to have a hobby - something just for yourself, to keep you sane. My usual go-to for that has been exercise and nature, but due to some minor injuries, rock climbing and running had to be put on hold. Thus, I found myself looking for a new hobby.

It was about this time, in the Summer of 2012, that I was working on assembling hardware and electronics for the ARIANNA experiment, a neutrino detector currently being deployed in Antarctica. It was an unexpected welcome change from the usual theoretical work I had been doing: programming, running simulations, producing, analyzing -- and sometimes just staring at -- data...all day long. It had been so long since I had used my hands for something other than typing! My hobby had thus been chosen, I decided I was going to try my restless hands at jewelry-making and sewing, two things I had wanted to do since I was a kid.

I immediately fell in love. It was this passion for using my hands for creative things once again that I believe led me to realize that though I love the field of physics, I did not enjoy doing scientific research as much as I had originally thought. My joy in research paled in comparison to the joy I was getting from my new-found hobby.

I felt that I would be the happiest and luckiest person on Earth if I could build a career around my creations, and so I knew I had to try it. A doctoral program leaves no room for part-time anything, so I was faced with a tough decision. I left the PhD program in Summer of 2013 and decided to give it my best shot. I have never been happier!

Questions about your order?
Please if you have any problems with your order.
I get great joy from making my creations, and it is important to me that you get joy out of them as well.

I accept returns and exchanges on all items except some custom orders; please read below for conditions.

-- Earrings -- Due to hygienic concerns, I assure all customers that their ear wires have never been worn by anyone else. For earring returns, the refunded amount will be the item price less a $1.00 fee for the ear wires. Returned ear wires are never reused for hygienic reasons.

-- Custom Orders -- Custom designs are final sale. This does not include length and size customization or most color customizations, but significantly altered designs only. Though, please note that I will work with you extensively to get the design and measurements just how you want them and I will send you several pictures for your approval along the way and before shipment.

-- Other Items -- For orders that are not custom pieces or earrings, if you are not happy with your item(s), I will issue a full refund less shipping charges upon receiving the item back, provided it is unworn and undamaged. The buyer is responsible for return shipping charges (unless there was an error on my part). It is recommended to use a trackable shipping method, so you can be sure that it makes its way back to me. If there was a mistake on my part or damage during transit, I will issue a full refund and pay the return shipping (USPS First Class with tracking).

-- Return/Exchange Window -- Because of the sometimes special-occasion nature of my products, I ask that the buyer contact me about the return with 3 days of delivery and have the item postmarked, on its way back to me, within 14 business days of delivery.

If you have any questions or concerns not addressed here, please don't hesitate to contact me. I want you to be happy and confident with your purchase. I am always happy to work with your unique circumstances and am here to help with any questions or concerns you may have.
Shipping
CARRIER AND DELIVERY TIMES:

By default, I ship via USPS First Class Mail, with USPS tracking included for orders shipping within the US. For US destinations, delivery time is typically 2-5 business days after shipment. Please note that this is an estimate quoted from USPS' website and delivery times will vary based on destination and potential delays in transit.

If you would like to upgrade to USPS Priority Mail, which has a typical transit time of 2-3 business days, there will be an option to do so when viewing your cart.

International orders ship via USPS First Class Mail by default and delivery time can take significantly longer, usually no fewer than 10 business days, and sometimes as long as several weeks.

PRODUCTION TIME:

Please check the listing's ship-by date, which is visible when viewing the items in your cart. This is the amount of time that I will need to make your item (if it is a made-to-order item) and prepare it for shipment. This is generally an overestimate; in most cases I will have your new goodies on their way to you before the ship-by date -- but not always, so please plan in accordance with the ship-by date.

If you would like a more specific estimate for a ship-by date on a particular item, please don't hesitate to send me a message and I will be happy to provide you with any helpful information I can. If you are under time constraints, I am happy to work with you to ensure your items arrive in time, please send me a message to discuss.

Please note that the total time for you to receive your goodies will be the production time plus the time spent in transit with USPS.

*** ATTENTION *** FOR ORDERS PLACED FROM OUTSIDE THE US:

For purchases made from outside the United States, please note that you are responsible for paying any customs fees, VAT, or other taxes and fees designated by the laws of your own country. You will be responsible for paying any such fees and taxes to your country's customs office or postal carrier upon receipt of your goods. Any applicable fees and taxes are not included in my pricing as there is currently no way for me to collect and remit them for you. Please consult your local postal carrier or government website for information on what those taxes and fees may be.
Additional policies and FAQs
All beads, pendants and stones in my pieces are genuine Swarovski crystal or Czech glass, unless otherwise stated in the listing. If I ever use anything other than Swarovski crystal or Czech glass, I will explicitly state which components are which in both the text of the listing and in the item materials section of the listing.

It is unfortunate, but suppliers are not required to disclose nickel content in their products. Though not dangerous, Nickel can be a skin irritant for some people. That being said, some suppliers do disclose this information, so I will provide you with that information whenever possible. So, please note that though I always strive to use only high-quality and hypoallergenic components, it may be the case that I cannot guarantee a component is nickel-free, even if it is nickel-free.

If you have a nickel allergy and are concerned about the nickel content in the components of a particular piece, please send me a convo and I will be happy to let you know if I can obtain nickel-content information from the relevant suppliers. If that information is not available for all components of a piece you are interested in, I will of course be happy to work with you to create a custom piece from guaranteed nickel-free components.
