Announcement   Small, original watercolor paintings of flowers in close-up and atmospheric landscapes, as well as giclee fine art prints and note cards. My floral portraits are painted with vivid, intense colors wet in wet, often cropping with close-up compositions with larger-than-life sizes to capture the expression and personality of every blossom. By contrast, my landscape and still-life paintings are usually painted with limited palette reflect the quiet lights, subtle colors and playful shapes exhibited by seemingly mundane, everyday scenes and commonplace objects. Striving for the emotional quality of every piece I create, I hope they would be able to reach out and connect with their viewers, evoking the sense of wonder and awe of our everyday life that are so often taken as granted. Every painting shown here is created with archival art material that will last the ages. If you are interested in viewing more of my work or inquiring about a commission, please visit my Website ( http://arenashawn.fineartstudioonline.com/), my blog (http://arenashawn.blogspot.com/) or email me at arena.shawn [!at] gmail.com.

About

A Tale of Two Brains: Scientist Turned Painter -- Arena Shawn

Once upon a time, I was a science major and obtained a Ph.D. in Physics in 2008 from Purdue University. However, alongside science I have always had a passion for art. After coming to United States for graduate school, I took the opportunity to attend many art classes provided by the university, and attended painting workshops around the country with nationally-renowned instructors. Eventually, the calling to art has led me to take the scary big leap, leaving my technical job as an Application Scientist in a scientific instrument company in Silicon Valley, and joining a full time Atelier program studying classical drawing and painting methods following the 19th-century French academic lineage in the Golden Gate Atelier in San Francisco.

In my pursuit of art, I try to use brush and paints to reflect the quiet lights, subtle colors and playful shapes exhibited by seemingly mundane, everyday objects. Striving for the emotional quality of every piece she has created, I hope my work would be able to reach out and connect with their viewers, evoking the sense of wonder and awe of our everyday life that are so often taken as granted. My primary working methods involves direct application of wet watercolor to saturated paper surface to create the fluidic appearance and organic patterns that borderlines representational and abstract nature, with special attentions paid to create strong value patterns and varied edge quality.

I am member of the Santa Clara Valley Watercolor Society (SCVWS) and the California Watercolor Association (CWA). I have recently joined Gallery Concord and expecting to have my first group show there this September! If you want to view more of my work, especially those larger pieces that I send to juried exhibitions around the country, you can go to my website, http://arenashawn.fineartstudioonline.com/. If you want to learn more about the day-in and day-out of my studio life, get a sneak peak of my new works, find out details of my painting process, you can follow me on my blog, http://arenashawn.blogspot.com.

Hi! Welcome to my corner of Etsy. My name is Arena Shawn, an award winning watercolor artist with a passion for painting flowers. I strive for the emotional quality of every piece created, in the hope that they would be able to capture the "personality" of the seemingly inanimate objects, and reach out to connect with the viewer, evoking the sense of wonder and awe of our everyday life that are so often taken as granted.

Payment
Paypal is my preferred method of payment. PayPal does not require you to have an account with them to purchase from my shop. You can use PayPal with just a credit card. Payment must be received within seven business days of order, or the order will be cancelled and item re-listed.
Shipping
Flat rate $10 shipping within United States, $12 to Canada and $25 for international orders. Multiple orders would be combined with a reduced rate of $5 for each additional item for USA, $6 for Canada and $10 for international shipments. I use these charges to cover the material and labor cost for matting the painting ready for framing, cost for protection materials used for the shipment, and the cost for shipment itself as well as insurance.

Watercolors will be shipped with 3 business days of payment, while oils would have to have a waiting time of 5-10 days to allow the paint to dry. All paintings will be shipped flat with secure, water-proof packaging to avoid any possible damage to the painting. Shipment will be made via USPS with delivery confirmation, but not signature confirmation unless specifically requested otherwise. I do insure every original painting but not prints or note cards, unless you request it. I will send you an email as soon as your order ships to provide tracking information.
Refunds and Exchanges
Buying art is a personal and subjective decision, and you are always invited to "try out" one of my paintings. If you are anything less than thrilled about the art after receiving it and looking at it in person, you can return it within 30 calendar days of the receiving date (according to the delivery confirmation information) for a full refund as long as the painting is shipped back to me without damage.

In terms of paintings damaged during shipping, if you provide me a photo of the damage within 7 business days of receiving (according to the delivery confirmation information) or or send the damaged item back to me with 30 calendar days of receiving, I will also issue a full refund for the item.

In terms of lost shipment, a full refund will be issued if the record of delivery confirmation shows the package is not delivered. If the delivery confirmation shows the package is delivered to the correct destination, a refund will not be issued.
Additional policies and FAQs
*Please note that although I have done my very best to ensure a correct color match between the original painting and what is seen in the photos here, colors still may vary slightly due to the difference of my monitor's color balance setting and yours.*

I may ask your permission to send my email newsletters regarding my art activities to you.
