Designs inspired by the art and jewelry of ancient times, both real and imagined

From before I can remember I’ve been an artist. And, almost as far back, I’ve been fascinated by making things by hand. I would get any kind of kit I could get my hands on. As a preteen I had leather tooling kit, wood carving set, rock tumbler, a metal embossing kit, a mini loom among others. I even had an antique set of molds for casting toy soldiers and cannons in metal. I’m pretty sure the metal was intended to be pewter but I collected lead (yes, lead “Yikes”) from fishing lures and tire weights and melted those down to make my little armies. At 12 my parents gave me a lapidary kit for cutting and polishing gemstones and my interest in jewelry making was born. As a teen I became interested in lost wax casting, a technique that goes back to the middle ages and is used to create jewelry and other metal items, but alas, it proved to be cost prohibitive for my budget (paper routes really don’t pay as much as you would think) and I moved on to other teenage interests. Eventually, my interests led me to pursue a career in graphic design and illustration which I have called my “day job” for over 30 years now.

Over the years I also developed a love of history, archeology, anthropology, and antiquity. I’m tremendously inspired by ancient cultures and ancient times when everything was made by hand and people learned a skill well, and then took the time and care to handcraft beautiful, unique works of art and other handmade items. I have a special affinity for the artisans of the Vikings, Celts, and Anglo-Saxons and pretty much anything medieval. The art and metalwork of those cultures simply blow me away. A few years ago I decided that I would combine my love of the work of these ancient artisans with my longtime interest in designing and making things by hand and embark on a new journey, creating artisan jewelry of my original designs; My goal is to combine those ancient techniques and aesthetics with a bit of modern alchemy to create jewelry that my customers will love as much as I do. I hope that you’ll find something here that YOU love.

About the name: Argentum is the Latin word for Silver and Arcana is Latin for Mysterious. I wanted a name that embodied the romance of ancient times lost to myth and legend. Yes, I know, we also sell jewelry in bronze and, in the near future, I hope to add gold to our shop. But Argentum et Aes et Aurum Arcana is a bit of a mouthful.

So, welcome to Argentum Arcana! Have a look around. If you don’t find what you’re looking for, please feel free to contact us. We do take custom orders.

And on last thing – Please help us to spread the word liking or following us social media.

This company provides contract jewelry casting services. They use my original hand-sculpted models to create molds that are then used to cast my designs. After casting, the items are then hand finished by myself.

My goal is to provide my customers with jewelry that they will cherish for many years to come and it’s very important to me that you are satisfied with your purchase. I design, make in its entirety and/or finish all of the jewelry in my shop by hand, so you should expect to see the small irregularities that are inherit in any handmade item. I believe that it’s those irregularities that give a handmade item its special charm. I’ve made every effort to give detailed and accurate descriptions of my jewelry regarding dimensions and materials. I’ve taken care to make sure that the photos accurately represent the piece that you are purchasing, however in most cases the photos accompanying the listing will not be of the exact item that you are ordering, but they will be a close representation of what you can expect to receive and they will also include irregularities inherent to artisan work. Please take a moment to carefully review the photos and the item description before placing your order.
