Announcement    ~WE ARE CURRENTLY RUNNING A 2023 SALE~
We offer the highest quality custom made mokume available on Etsy. We make our billets by hand, in house, and using only precious recycled metal. Arns work is known and collected for it's rare patterns, beautiful palettes, and a unique refined look. You will know his work when you see it. Thank you for your generous support and for trusting us to create these special and heartfelt pieces for you. We are honored.

WHAT IS MOKUME?

Mokume gane is an ancient metalworking technique in which layers of precious metal are alloyed together with heat and pressure, then twisted, carved, and forged to create beautiful organic patterns. My mokume patterns are made in various combinations of yellow gold, red gold, silver, and palladium. Each ring is 2mm thick of solid mokume, no liners are used so that you will have a solid and high quality mokume ring with no short cuts.
If you would like a liner to protect the wearer from silver allergies or to help show an engraving you would like on the inside we can absolutely add one. (We do not use any nickel in our precious metal alloys so you never have to worry about nickel allergies.)

ABOUT THE QUALITY :
"Thank you for your interest in my jewelry! Arn Krebs Arts specializes in custom-made mokume gane wedding rings with unique patterns and beautiful palettes of metal. In my many years of making mokume I’ve developed the skillset to make bands that resemble wood grain, topographical canyons, oceanic waves, and other natural formations. All mokume rings are available in any size, width, profile, pattern, metal combination and finish. Select a stone from our inventory, have us find something special, or provide your own stone for setting. All rings are made individually from start to finish and so will be completely custom."

CREATING A CUSTOM DESIGN
DESIGNING AND SKETCHING
If you would like us to create a one of a kind design with you that includes rough sketches or more involved options we ask for a non refundable $200 dollar deposit. This fee is set to account for Arns time spent away from the bench and invested in your project. We thank you for choosing us and we are grateful for your continued commitment to our work! Our drawings are expressly copyrighted for explicit use by Arn Krebs only.

For simple changes to existing designs there is no charge

IN PERSON DESIGN WITH ARN:

Arn is available for in person design work and consultation on Mon-Fri 10-3

 by appt.

PATTERN:

We specialize in mokume patterns and can offer a wide selection of patterning options. The pattern descriptions are meant to give a general idea of the look of the ring, but please keep in mind that every item is individually made by hand and will inevitably vary from other rings in the same pattern category. Because they are made by hand no two patterns are the same.

All mokume patterns are achieved by one of two processes; carving or forging. Guri Bori mokume requires the most involved carving, resulting in a ring that has recesses or layers that resemble topography. Other carved patterns include the wood grain pattern, the twist pattern, and the droplet patterning.

Forged patterns include end grain pattern, wave pattern, flow pattern, bookmatched endgrain, as well as others.

Please note that all mokume patterns are unique and so will vary from those pictured. The images in the listings are meant to give a general idea of the look of the ring, but please keep in mind that every item is individually made by hand and will inevitably vary from other rings in the same pattern category.

For information and examples of patterns, copy the address below into your browser:
http://www.susanfredastudios.com/pages/mokume-info

STONE SOURCING:
We are happy to source the stone of your choice for your ring. Should you prefer to provide your own stones, Arn Krebs Mokume will not be responsible for their quality. Upon receiving your stone I will assess its quality and inform you of any risk and liability issues that I foresee if it is used.

METAL COMBINATIONS:

All of my metal is responsibly sourced. I use 14k & 18kt yellow gold, 14k red gold, sterling silver, and palladium. My mokume involves any combination of these metals, as the listings will picture. I prefer using palladium over white gold, as the two are indistinguishable visually and palladium has far better wear characteristics.

For more information and examples of metal combinations, copy the address below into your browser:
http://www.susanfredastudios.com/pages/mokume-info

FINISHES:

All mokume rings are available in an etched, etched and oxidized, or satin finish.

Etched rings containing silver can also have an oxidized finish that turns the silver a dark gray/black hue. Please note that although the oxidization treatment is stable and durable the black color of oxidized silver is a surface treatment and can be worn off or degraded by some chemicals. Your own body chemistry and lifestyle will affect the lifespan of the treatment.

I only oxidize rings that have been etched as this provides protection from wear as the silver layers are recessed. In my experience this technique can last years and I am always happy to re oxidize your ring any time.

WIDTH:

All my rings can be made in any width. I recommend that you fit a strip of paper around your finger in various widths in order to get a sense of what width suits your hand and taste.

Please note that the mokume patterns shown in our listings will vary depending on your ring size and the width of the ring. In order to maintain the proportions of the pattern, a larger ring size would call for a wider band, and a smaller ring size would call for a thinner band.

ADDITIONAL CUSTOMIZATIONS:

Other available customizations include tapering, lining the interior of the ring in a layer of a single metal, and adding railings to the ring that frame the mokume pattern.

I am happy to work with you to achieve whatever other ideas you have for your custom piece. If you don’t see the characteristic you’d like pictured, do not hesitate to ask if it’s something I can do.

STONE SETTING:

We will happily source stones for you, one of kind and specialty stones have a sourcing fee. If you would like to provide us with a stone we are also happy to accept them, however setting fees will vary depending on stone quality and shape. Upon receipt of your stone we will inspect it and should we discover any potential issues with the stone we will disclose this to you before setting the stone. Stones that we deem as high risk can not be guaranteed. For stones of high value its a good idea to add them to your home owners insurance policy.

COMMISSIONS:
Commission pieces are available.

CUSTOM BILLETS:

If you are requesting a metal combination that we do not stock we are happy to make one for you and charge a fee.

SAMPLE RING PROGRAM:
Arn Krebs Mokume offers ring samples to help customers who would like to hold the ring and see their quality in person. We understand that purchasing a ring online is a big commitment and we would like to be able to provide you with the opportunity to view rings in person so that you are able to touch and get a feeling of what the craftsmanship and feeling of the ring is.

These samples may not necessarily be the pattern, size or width that you are interested in but they will provide you with an opportunity to see the craftsmanship that goes into each ring as well as the colors and patterns of our unique rings. You can choose which ring (s) you would like to see from our available now section which is the inventory we currently have in stock.

Please inquire to see if we have a sample ring that closely matches your needs.
We require that you pay for shipping and insurance of the ring(s) both ways. In addition, we require you to allow us to authorize the full retail value of the sample ring(s) on your credit card.

The cost of this program is $100-$300 depending on how many rings you would like to see up to 3. ($100 per ring) This fee covers shipping and insurance and is non-refundable. If you decide to proceed with your order, we will apply $75 per ring towards your order. Rings may be kept for up to 48 hours. We ask for a copy of your drivers license and your credit card info to authorize the full retail value of the rings in the event that they are not returned to us with 48 hours. Please be mindful that these rings are your responsibility while they are in your possession.

If you are interested in our Sample Ring Program, please contact us.

RESIZING AND REPAIR POLICY

SIZING IS AN ART
Sizing is an art and not a science. When you place a deposit if you would like we will send out metal sizers for a $75 fee with shipping paid both ways by us . Finger size fluctuates with heat and cold, salt intake etc. We ask that you wear your ring sizer over the course of a week or two to become comfortable with how the ring will fit in different conditions. Once you are comfortable with the way the ring fits send us the sizer and we will make your ring to that size. There are no standardized ring sizers in the industry, which is a shame. This is why we ask that you send us the specific sizer that fits you. Take note- we can’t deliver a ring sizer in exactly your width and size (though we are trying to figure out how to do this in the future!) So keep in mind that if your ring is a greater width than the sizer it will be a tighter fit and if it is less width it will be looser. We ask that all sizers be returned to us and there is a $200 fee for sizers not returned.
If you have an inexpensive ring that fits you well you are welcome to send that instead. We will return it to you with your new ring.
If you use the sizer service and your ring arrives and does not fit, we offer one complimentary resizing to correct it! Otherwise resizing bands is $150.
Resizing on our rings with stones are priced individually as they require removing and re-setting the stones. Sizing for rings with stones can become costly and we ask that you take care in choosing your ring size.

WARRANTY AND CRAFTSMANSHIP:
All pieces purchased from Arn Krebs Mokume is guaranteed to be high quality and of supreme craftsmanship. A note on durability and wear:
My Mokume rings are heirloom quality and will wear as well as any solid gold ring. Years of experience using solid state diffusion bonding and the use of specialized aerospace material compression blocks make my billet lamination top quality, providing a material as strong as any solid metal.
If you have a concern please contact us about a return for assessment and repair. If after return it is determined to indeed be flawed, it will be repaired and returned without charge to you.
Items exposed to abuse or adverse environments are not guaranteed. Stones and stone settings can break when struck with hard materials such as steel or stone and in these cases they are not guaranteed. We also cannot anticipate any allergic reactions to materials used in our piece, or slight variations in texture or color or patterns due to the handmade nature of the work.
It is the customer’s responsibility to order the correct ring size. We are happy to send ring sizers and help with this.
