Video summary: Here's a little snapshot of my process - hope you enjoy!

Laurita AKA Laura Crockett

Hello! My name is Laura and I am a Minneapolis based artist

I started painting a little over a year ago while my husband and I were living in New Orleans. We walked to Walmart, grabbed a cheap canvas and a couple little paints and brushes, and the rest is history.

I honestly feel very weird calling myself an “artist” and, at the same time, I feel strongly that everyone is an artist in some way.

I am completely self taught which sounds cool, until another artist starts talking about literally anything and I’m lost in the terminology 😅

My favorite moment in every painting is when the image goes from being dull and 2-dimensional to having depth and life. It’s like it wakes up right in front of me and suddenly it’s not mine anymore- it’s something of its own. It’s addicting and so incredible to watch.

I paint because I love it. I paint because it magically captures emotions on canvas, it expresses pain and joy, it celebrates beauty and the mundane, it is a way to amplify the voices of the images themselves and create a new voice. I paint because I can’t sit still during movies and painting gives me something to do, lbs.

Thank you for your support and for participating in this journey with me!
