Painting and "making" have always been part of my life. Practising art - and in general doing something creative - is for me a joy and a need. Over the years I experimented different media, techniques and styles, to arrive to torn and cut paper collage using mostly upcycled paper.
I see “beauty” and endless creative possibilities in recyclables; I love to give a second, colourful life to discarded paper, that otherwise would be thrown away. I reuse scrap paper from old magazines, newspapers, books, packaging and wrapping paper to create torn and cut paper collages – portraits, landscapes and nature treasures.
I try to raise the status of the paper no longer in use to art, hoping to alter the perception of waste and make us rethink what we throw away in a new light.
Making a collage is a slow, messy, relaxing process: piece by piece a new whole comes out while bringing a moment of quiet focus.
Usually, I prefer to tear pieces of paper rather than cutting them. It is always a surprise to see how, piece after piece, a facial expression forms from all those tiny, imperfect, roughly torn pieces of paper.
