For the Love of ART and The ART of Decorating

My philosophy is: no space is a truly happy space without color and art. Whether you're doing a complete remodel or just updating a bedroom, wall art is the perfect tool to help bring together your favorite colors, your style, your personality, and a professionally decorated look.

Need help? Decorating 101 is all about creating a cohesive color palette and simply wrapping those colors around the room. This is easily accomplished with featured wall art (meaning large enough to make an impact and balance with your heavy furnishings), decorative pillows, candles, painted picture frames, a few comfy throws, rugs, curtains, and/or other accessories in the cohesive colors you choose for your decorating palette.

Be sure to include colors that make you happy! For example, let's say your favorite colors are jewel tones (my happy colors) and your walls are grey (a trendy neutral color that can be drab and sad on it's own, but becomes a great background for your happy color palette). If you want a fresh seasonal look while keeping the same wall art, for the spring/summer season you might want to decorate with accessories (i.e. throw pillows, candles, etc) in your favorite shades of teal or aqua, plus plum, coral, or peach. Then, for fall/winter you could change out some of those accessories to turquoise plus purple, aubergine, or a darker coral. Wahlah! It's a new seasonal look. Ideally, if you plan to use the same wall art year around, in this example your featured art would include light+dark shades of teal, aqua & turquoise, and light+dark shades of coral or plum+purple or plum+aubergine. Or all of the above. It may sound complicated, but once you get the hang of it, it's easy peasy. It all starts with picking your colors.

You can also START with the art --- find a piece you absolutely love and then pick two or three colors from that art to create your room's color palette. Go buy accessories in those two or three colors, spread them around the room, and you might be well on your way to creating a professionally decorated look. It usually works better if you choose one as a dominating color, using more of this color than you do of the others. This helps balance and ground the rooms' color palette, overall. For me, teal and turquoise are my favorite colors so I use more from this color family (in various shades) in my personal decorating. You can stand in the middle of one of my rooms and look in any direction and see teal and/or turquoise, along with smaller splashes of the other colors I use. This is what I refer to as 'wrapping the color around a room'. I can change the look of my room at any time by changing some accessories to purples or reds or navy blue or olive green or yellow or you name it. Many colors are a great compliment to teal and turquoise.

A bedroom can easily be decorated for different seasons with solid color bedding (i.e. solid teal or coral for spring/summer, turquoise or aubergine for fall/winter), plus wall art and patterned throw pillows that include both season's colors to tie it all together. Put placemats under your table lamps to add another splash of color. Add fresh yellow flowers to create contrast. The possibilities are endless, but it doesn't have to be complicated. Everyone deserves a beautiful space, and I'm glad to help you accomplish that any way I can. If you think you need help, just ask.

A bit about me....
The seeds of creativity were planted long ago. Passionate about color, creating art, and learning about the art of decorating as a preteen, I was selling my original paintings by the time I was 16, while constantly 're-decorating' my bedroom. So, I've always known that the marriage of my art with interior design would define my career life. It's really a no-brainer. Not only do I love what I do, having someone love what I poured my heart and soul into makes us both happy. It’s definitely a win win and back around again!

After my kids flew the coop (over 25 years ago) I took the leap of faith, quit my last 8-5 “job”, and turned my passions into a full-time creative business. Services included interior decorating & design, Trompe L’oeil & hand painted murals, faux finishes, custom artwork, and lots more. My little green van traveled all over Texas packed full of tools, ladders, and art supplies. When I wasn’t on the road, I was in the studio creating. Eventually, traveling and loading/unloading became tiresome, so I took a step back and realized what I really wanted to do was just design, draw and paint – in the comfort of my own home and studio. Wearing paint splattered clothes all day. Not fixing my hair every day. Makeup, no thanks. I love my life! And my business!

I joined Etsy in 2011 and ArtFromDenise was launched in September 2013. Currently aqua, teal, and turquoise are my favorite colors to work with, but jewel tones have always dominated my original artwork. They make us happy!

You betcha! If you want a unique look you're in the right place. Although I've been painting forever, all listings in this shop are based on original paintings that I've created since opening the shop in 2013. If you like my style of painting but don’t see the exact image you’re looking for, I’ll be glad to create a custom painting for you. Just let me know what you have in mind. Inspiration can come from one or more of the paintings in my shop, other images you see online, or our combined imaginations. I’ve created all kinds of artwork in a variety of styles, so please don’t hesitate to ask for what you want. I can’t promise you the moon, but I can sure paint it for you. And I'll be glad to custom mix the colors used in your painting so it will coordinate with your decor. I use only high quality professional grade paints, canvas, and varnish. Guaranteed.

The giclee prints offered in this shop are open edition. However, in a sense you could consider them limited editions because I probably won't live long enough to sell more than 100 prints of any one art piece. Seriously. You won't see my work on Amazon, in Walmart, or in any other box store where you find the cheap mass produced stuff made in China or Mexico. So.... chances are you will never see it on anyone else's walls. Unless you buy it for them, of course. All ArtFromDenise prints are the highest of quality and made to order in the USA. The prints are as close to the original artwork as any print can be and they are definitely worth the price. Guaranteed.

Thanks for your interest in ArtFromDenise and HAVE FUN shopping!

Returns and exchange details
As the reviews for this shop reflect, I love what I do and take pride in providing top notch customer service and high quality fine art. The following return and exchange policies are fair and they protect both of us.

Every item is carefully inspected before shipment. Upon receipt of your order, please inspect the artwork. In the event that damage has occurred during shipment, please contact ArtFromDenise within 24 hours and attach photos that clearly show the damaged box AND the damaged artwork. If you ordered a print, a replacement will be sent while we are in the process of filing a claim with the shipping carrier. As the recipient, the customer must hold on to all original packaging material as well as the box for a claim to be processed, until we tell you otherwise. If the original packaging isn't available, ArtFromDenise can not help with the claim process and the entire responsibility of handling the claim with the shipping carrier will be left up to the customer. No print refunds will be issued by ArtFromDenise.

► NO REFUNDS WILL BE ISSUED FOR ITEMS THAT ARE RETURNED DUE TO “failure to deliver” or "insufficient address".
Customers are responsible for providing the correct shipping address when they place their order. A tracking number is provided when the order is shipped and it’s up to the customer to make arrangements to receive the delivery. If the package is returned to ArtFromDenise, I will be glad to resend the order. However, the customer will first need to pay for all additional shipping costs. Carriers don't ship anything for free. Even when it's a 'return to sender', I'm charged for that additional shipping cost from Fedex or UPS. So, the customer will be responsible for the 'return-to-sender' shipping to ArtFromDenise as well as the cost to re-ship the product to the customer. For prints, these return and re-ship rates are always different than the rate you paid when you ordered the item. The prints are returned to and re-shipped from my location in Texas - instead of the specialized printing company that created your print, which is in a different state. They also get a much lower rate on shipping than I do, because of their volume.

Again, for your protection… PLEASE make sure your account information in your profile settings are updated with your current address and information BEFORE you make any purchase. Etsy sellers are instructed to ship to the address you’ve selected from your Etsy account and not to manually change it on our store’s records. If the item is a gift that needs to go to an address other than your own, you will need to add that to your list of addresses on your account and make sure to select the right one when you’re checking out. If you’re using a third party app to pay with (i.e. ApplePay) please double check their ship-to address/information when you’re placing the order. Some third party apps can override addresses on Etsy accounts. (Etsy sellers cannot be held responsible for any issues with third party apps.)

Etsy sellers cannot be held responsible for any issues with the postal service. Fedex is my preferred carrier, but I do use USPS for prints on fine art paper or small to medium sized canvas prints to keep the cost as low as possible for you. It's rare for one of my orders to get lost in transit, but if your package hasn't arrived on schedule, patience is necessary. It will usually show up. Eventually.

If the order hasn't arrived within ten days of the estimated delivery, I recommend filing a missing mail application on the website. This can help gets things moving. However, in some cases, it can take up to 45 days to receive your package.

If you're ordering a paper print or small canvas and this is a risk you do not want to take, please notify me before placing your order to arrange for a shipping carrier upgrade plus insurance. I've never had an issue with Fedex or UPS losing a package, but their rates are higher. Otherwise, if your order is shipping through USPS, ArtFromDenise is not responsible for packages lost in transit and will not be able to refund or replace your order. Etsy sellers aren't at all like large corporations that can easily pay for the costs of a replacement when the issue is caused by a third party mishandling the order. Their actions are totally out of our control.

ArtFromDenise prints are CUSTOM ORDERED ITEMS. Each print is made to order just for you - with the image you choose and in the size that you specify. In other words, ArtFromDenise is not a giant box store with hundreds of mass produced prints in dozens of sizes (for each image) sitting on a shelf just waiting to be purchased, or stored in a warehouse. In this day and age, most independent artists that only sell online do not keep art prints in stock. The advancement of digital printing has given us the ability to match the needs of each customer on an individual level by using 'print on demand' services. This allows us to offer hundreds of images in a variety of sizes for customers to choose from without having to invest major dollars in inventory or storage space. And as an independent artist that only sells her work through Etsy, it's the only way I am able to maintain a sustainable art print business.

Are you still with me? Obviously, you're a smart shopper. Thanks for hanging in there...

It's also worth saying that most Etsy artists aren't trying to compete with places such as Walmart, Big Lots, Hobby Lobby, or Amazon. Yes, you can get cheap art prints at these places and returns are usually easy, but these big businesses have deep enough pockets to absorb the cost of returns and a large enough inventory to sell to the masses at low prices. In case you didn't know, most of their art suppliers mass produce the prints in China or Mexico and that's definitely reflected in the low quality of the prints. You get what you pay for. Prints that are produced in sweat shops can also be found through dozens of retailers that sell cheap art. Price and convenience have become common factors for online shopping, but I believe high quality product, top notch service, and integrity is still much more important.

Some people assume that returned prints can easily be sold to someone else. Unfortunately, it just doesn't work that way. Shoppers have different wants and needs, and with an average of less than 20 customers a week, it could be years before anyone else orders that same art image in the same size, if ever. Returns were allowed when I first started offering canvas prints but it only took a few months to realize that I would be out of business if that continued. Two years later, those same six returns that cost me over $1600 are still being stored in my guest bedroom. So, that's money out the window. These prints were returned because the colors didn't match the customers decor. Point is... ArtFromDenise is a one person business and simply can't afford to invest in a print inventory or absorb the cost of returned prints. Or the cost of storage space. So, please make sure the colors will work for your decor and that you're ordering the right size. This process can be VERY simple if you follow these recommendations:
☼ If you need to know if the artwork will blend with your colors, you can purchase the following color proof on canvas for $10 + postage: If you like the artwork and the colors blend well with your decor, after you purchase the canvas print(s) you'll be credited $10 for the proof. Credits are not applicable for prints on fine art paper or original paintings. Note: This color proof also comes in handy if you need to shop for accessories that match.
☼ If you're not sure which size print is best for the space, you can tape together some paper to create a mock-up of the size you're considering and then tape that paper onto the wall. This will give you a good visual of how that size will balance with other furnishings. If needed, add more paper until you determine the best fit. If you don't see the exact size you need listed for the artwork, just send me a message. In most cases, a size can be created that's close enough to what you need.

If you have any doubts about ordering art prints online, please consider ordering a color proof and feel free to contact me with any questions. Reading some of the reviews can also help eliminate concerns:

By submitting payment for a custom order, you are agreeing to pay for my professional design services, the supplies necessary for your project, and studio time. Full payment must be made when your order is placed.

Returns and refunds will not be accepted for custom paintings or art that was personalized with text. I do my very best to create exactly what you want. A proof of the final art image will be emailed to you for approval and I will make any adjustments necessary. Your artwork doesn't get shipped until you've accepted the final proof. The goal at ArtFromDenise is always to make sure you're totally happy with your custom painting.

Customized paintings reflect my style of painting and are designed to suit you. Your input is where it all starts, so communication is key. Please be clear about what you want when you place the order and things will go very smoothly. If you're willing to mail color chips, I will be glad to custom mix the paint to coordinate with your decor. Colors on computer monitors vary, so emailing samples doesn't guarantee a match. You can get color chips that are a close match from a local hardware or paint store.

IN-STOCK PAINTINGS can be returned for a refund or store credit (excluding all shipping charges). However, the return must be approved in advance, the painting must be shipped back to ArtFromDenise within two business days of receiving the art, the package must be insured, and the canvas(es) must be in the appropriate sized box packed with appropriate packing material. Upon receiving the return, all item(s) will be inspected by Denise and if the artwork isn't damaged in any way, a refund will be issued - minus the shipping costs.

Because all shipping costs are estimated before the painting is packaged, in some instances the actual cost to ship is more than what the customer was charged. Therefore, the actual cost of shipping will be deducted from any refund or credit. If requested, ArtFromDenise will provide the customer with a shipping manifest showing the actual cost that the carrier was paid to ship the painting to the customer. The customer is also responsible for all return shipping costs. Etsy charges a 5% fee on our sale as well as the shipping, so these amounts will be added to the total shipping cost. In addition, a material and restocking fee of 15% may also be deducted from the total refund.

Specific instructions on how to package and return in-stock paintings are listed below under the section titled "HOW TO RETURN IN-STOCK PAINTINGS".

The return of an in-stock painting must be approved by Denise, the package must be insured, and the canvas(es) must be in the appropriate sized box packed with appropriate packing material. Please re-pack the artwork with care by following these simple steps:
-Working on a clean flat surface (e.g. kitchen table) wrap the canvas up in the same way as it was when you received it - using the same type of packing material (or as close as possible).
-Make sure the entire front, back, sides, tops, and corners of each canvas are securely wrapped so that there's an even layer of cushion between the entire canvas and all sides of the box. If there's more than one canvas, they each need to be individually wrapped. We all know how reckless the shipping companies can get. They stack, kick, scoot and drop every box dozens of times before it reaches it's destination. This is why the most common areas to get damaged on a canvas are the corners.
-Do not use any tape on the surface of the canvas.
-Be sure no rigid packing materials are included that might rest against the canvas and cause a permanent dent or scratch.
-If an extra layer of cardboard is used between the image side of the canvas and the box (which is always a good idea), the cardboard needs to be the same size as the canvas or just a bit larger. If it's smaller, that short edge will rub against and scratch the canvas.
-If you use bubble wrap, make sure the flat side is against the canvas. Otherwise, "bubble dents" could become a permanent part of the canvas.
-Please make sure the canvas is packed tight to prevent movement during transit.
-Place the canvas in the same box and tape the box securely.
-PLEASE remove or cover up the old label and contact me for the address to send it to.
-As stated previously, the customer is responsible for all shipping charges, so it's up to you which carrier you choose for the return shipping. Please don't forget to insure it.

-Size of the artwork you're interested in
-Shipping address and zip code or postal code
-Email address
You might want to consider other options that may be more economical to ship. One option is a canvas print or custom painting rolled and mailed in a tube, in which case you'll need to have it stretched and mounted locally. Another option is to order a digital jpeg file of the art image and then you can have an art canvas printed, stretched and mounted at a local giclee print shop. Contact me for more info and please include the size, shipping address, etc. as mentioned above.
International customers are responsible for any and all customs fees, levies, VAT, etc. that are due upon delivery of their package. These costs are not included in shipping charges paid to ArtFromDenise. In most cases, you can avoid these charges by ordering a digital jpeg. Then you can have the art canvas printed, stretched and mounted at a local giclee print shop.
☼ International shipping can take 2 to 12 weeks and even longer.
Once an item leaves the U.S., ArtFromDenise has absolutely no control over it and with the exception of shipments to Canada, it's almost impossible to track.
☼ For lost parcels, most countries require you to wait at least 45 days to file a claim. Italy requires a 60 day wait before filing. Other than providing you with the shipping information, ArtFromDenise will not able to help with the claim process.
ArtFromDenise no longer accepts PayPal payments for international orders. Please use a debit or credit card through Etsy's direct checkout system.
☼ For international orders, all sales are final and no refunds or exchanges will be issued.
Additional policies and FAQs
Many of the ArtFromDenise paintings and prints can be personalized with words, quotes, song lyrics, bible verses, dates, names, etc. If you want the text added, please be sure to provide the specifics when placing the order. Add the item to your shopping cart and in the "notes to seller" section please include the following:
☼ exact spelling AND punctuation of what you want added to the artwork.
☼ specific colors or fonts that you prefer for the text.
☼ any other requests or questions you might have.

Once the order is processed your work will be scheduled and I will email a digital proof to you when it's ready. Usually within a day or two. Revisions can be made at that time - before the text is hand-painted on canvas or before the order for a print is placed with the print-on-demand company.

Thanks to years of working in the interior decorating and design industry, creating custom paintings to coordinate with interiors is one of Denise's specialties. And you get the satisfaction of saying “This was painted just for me!”

A custom painting is the perfect opportunity to get exactly what you want AND complete your color scheme. In any room, there should be a happy harmony where the colors play off of each other and create a sense of balance. If you need to bring in more of any specific color(s), please let Denise know and she’ll keep that in mind when designing your painting.

If you're considering ordering one of the original paintings that Denise already offers, please keep in mind that colors on computer monitors vary, so what you see on your screen may be a bit different than the actual painting is. If you need an exact color match, the best option is a custom painting, and the best way to make sure it will match is for you to mail color chips to Denise (in a variety of shades, from light to dark). She can then custom mix the paint to match your decor. For instance, if you want the painting to match the colors in a pillow, you can take the pillow to your paint supply store (Lowe's, Home Depot, etc.) and find color chips that are a close match. She will also need a sample of your wall color, if possible. If you have leftover wall paint, you can simply paint this on a sheet of white paper. Try not to delay in mailing the color chips to Denise. The sooner she gets your samples, the sooner you get your painting.

I've painted on tiny surfaces all the way up to huge murals on buildings - in a variety of styles and themes - so anything is possible. Just keep in mind that I can’t stock canvases in every conceivable size. A custom made canvas is always an option, but it will add to the the total price of the painting, as well as the turnaround time. A custom sized canvas usually takes about a week to have made.

If you're not sure which size canvas is best for the space, tape together some paper to create a mock-up of the size you're considering, and then tape the paper onto the wall. This will give you a good idea of how that size will work. If needed, add more paper until you determine the best fit. She may not have the exact size you need, but I usually keep a good variety of standard canvas sizes in stock:
10”x10”, 12”x12”, 16”x20”, 12”x24”, 18”x24”, 24”x24”, 10”x30”, 20”x30”
24”x30", 30"x30", 12"x36", 18”x36”, 24”x36”, 36"x36", 30"x40", or 24”x48”.

If you need something for a SPECIAL place or a hard to decorate area, sometimes a standard size just won’t cut it! Other options include:
- A custom made canvas in any size you need.
- A diptych (with two canvas panels)
- A triptych (with three canvas panels)
- Other groupings where the same size canvases (or a variety of sizes) can be grouped together to have a greater impact.

All canvas used in ArtFromDenise is high quality 100% cotton (unless you request linen, which will add to the cost considerably). For stretched ready to hang canvas, staples are all on the back so there’s no need to frame it. Just hang it and love it! The canvas edges will be painted in black (or another color if you request it), or the sides can be painted to match the art on the front for an additional charge.

All paints used by Denise are archival quality professional grade acrylics and varnish. Professional grade watercolors, color pencils, or pastel chalks are also used in some paintings.

Prices for custom paintings vary depending on size and subject. The minimum price for a custom painting is $200, even if it's only a 10x10". There's a great deal of time that goes into working with a client and creating their custom painting, regardless of size.

If you're considering a custom painting, please contact me and provide details about what you have in mind (i.e. what size, preferred colors, style, image, etc.). Sharing images found online that are similar to what you have in mind can be a tremendous help to me when visualizing what you might want. Please be aware that I will not 'copy' anyone else's artwork, but it can be used for inspiration. And please include photos of the room where the artwork will hang.

I will also need your shipping address to get a quote on shipping costs. The larger the painting, the higher the shipping costs, so in some cases the best option may be an unstretched canvas. The finished painting would be rolled and shipped to you in a tube. After you receive the artwork, a professional framer can stretch and mount it locally. The canvas will include enough width and length to wrap around the back edges of the wood support frame.

When you're ready to purchase a custom painting, I will create a custom listing for you on Etsy. You'll have 48 hours to submit full payment. After the order is processed I'll let you know when I plan to start your painting. All custom paintings are created in the order they’re received - one at a time - until that customer is happy with the results. It's what artists call "staying in the zone". In most cases it will only take about a week to complete the painting, but the entire process will take 3-4 weeks, plus shipping time. This all depends on humidity, since the paint needs to cure for at least seven days before it can be varnished, and the varnish needs to cure before the canvas can be packaged for shipment. Even though many artists don’t take these steps to allow paint and varnish to cure properly, I've been doing this for a long time and believe these steps are necessary to protect your investment.

If you have any questions about the process, please don't hesitate to ask.
