Welcome!

My name is Anabella Zagura, and I love to swim in lakes, bike through beautiful scenery, dance blues and tango, and hunch over metal sheets, hammering them into, hopefully, something beautiful.

For many years , I had no idea I had any crafty, or artistic inclinations. I studied philosophy, then taught it to college students. Then at some point, around 2005, I found out that being alive was for me less a matter of reflection, and more a matter of making things, useful or beautiful things - like a meal, or a lamp, or a plant stand. There is a physical immediacy in connecting with the world by working with concrete objects: in kneading a dough with your hands, sanding wood, or forging metal. A connection that doesn't happen through abstract thinking, reflecting on the world, or even impacting it in a way mediated by machines, or by others' physical work. I need this connection. That's why I love working with metal, using traditional metalsmithing techniques: it's just between you and the metal, sweating to shape it into your vision, (or changing your vision to suit the whims of the metal...), using only basic, minimal tools.

These are some of the reasons I make jewelry. But making things is ultimately pointless if they are not used. Ultimately, I make a necklace with an idea of how beautiful a woman would look wearing it, how she would enjoy it. If I were rich, perhaps I would gift everything I make. But I'm not rich. So if you find in my store something you love and afford, please buy it :) And (if the previous request wasn't blunt enough), let me know how it's doing!

Additional policies and FAQs
CUSTOM ORDERS: I am happy to create a custom order for you. I will discuss with you the various aspects of the design, and you can be as involved or non-involved in the design process as you like. I believe collaborating on a design can be fun and rewarding for both parties. I expect you to be honest about what you like and don't like, and you should expect me to be straightforward as well about what I think would or wouldn't look good, and about what's feasible.
Once we agree on a design, 50% of the total price is due before I start working on the piece. The other 50% is due when the product is ready, before shipping it out to you. I will work closely with you to ensure you will love the end product. I can send you pictures at various stages of the process. Custom orders are not refundable. In the unlikely event that you do not like the end product, even after close consultations during the design and execution process, I can modify the piece up to two times, to fit your requirements.

HOW TO MAINTAIN MOKUME GANE jewelry. Mokume gane pieces have a surface patina that brings out the contrast between the different metals. To maintain the patina, one should not use corosives or chemicals to clean the mokume gane. A simple mild soap solution is the most you'll ever need to clean it. If your jewelry piece also has a sterling silver component to it, the silver component can be cleaned with an anti-tarnish solution, or with a polishing cloth. Do not immerse the mokume-gane part in the anti-tarnish solution, as is it twill remove the patina. If you ever have any questions about maintaining your jewelry piece, please do not hesitate to convo me: I'll be happy to help.

HOW TO MAINTAIN BLACK SILVER jewelry. The black color of silver jewelry is obtained with a surface patina. I apply a wax coating to protect the black patina. If your piece of jewelry gets scratched accidentally, the silver will naturally oxidize and turn black over time, so the scratch will disappear. No chemical, anti-tarnish solutions for cleaning silver should be used on black silver jewelry: those solutions remove the black oxidation, so your piece will end up silver instead of black. A simple mild soap solution is the most you'll ever need to clean your jewelry.
