About

Seduced by Tiny Beads

I started making jewelry when I saw some colorful, sparkly, little tiny beads, and bought a book that showed how to create jewelry using some basic stitches. Seed beads aren't terribly expensive, so I bought more, and then more. I wanted some of every color!
I started with very simple peyote-stitch bracelets, which I gave away to friends. Then I moved on to other patterns--herringbone and St. Petersburg were such fun--and bigger beads, and sparkly crystals! I couldn't get enough from the local craft stores, so I started ordering online. (Yes, this is now getting expensive!) Then I went to my first bead show--heaven on earth! I discovered lampwork beads...little individual works of art with swirling colors and sparkles under clear glass, mmmm, lovely!
Then I became intrigued by simple wire work. After all, I needed earrings to go with the necklaces, right?!
I started beading at lunch with some like-minded individuals, and offered a few short "make it yourself" classes in Christmas earring designs.
Since people were interested, I started bringing completed pieces with me to meetings and gatherings, selling first to people I knew and then branching out to craft fairs. I finally decided I needed to reach a larger audience, and started my shop on Etsy. I hope you like it!

I've been married for 38 years, and create support materials (quick reference cards, online help, web pages, and user guides) for computer systems for a living. I started painting in 2002, then started making jewelry. It's one of the things I do to have fun!

Welcome to Lea's Beads on Etsy! I specialize in beadwork, from woven bracelets and necklaces, to strung pieces, to chain linked pieces. I also enjoy making earrings. Lately, I've been branching out into some wire working.

I generally don't make the same thing more than once or twice (unless I love it, of course!), and if I do make an item again, I use different colors, so each piece is one of a kind. I get my ideas from magazines and patterns, but I don't usually make a pattern exactly as it is shown in a magazine. That wouldn't be any fun!

A note on earrings: I generally don't include ear guards or stoppers with my earrings, but if you have trouble keeping fishhook earrings secure on your ears, just include a note with your order, and I will include small plastic stoppers at no extra cost.

Payment
I accept payments through PayPal, at the time of purchase. If you live in New Jersey, I am required to charge sales tax of 7%, which will be added to your purchase price. Within 3 business days of receiving payment on your order, I will ship the item(s) via USPS. Note: Custom orders will take longer (up to a week or two), since I will need to make the piece, and if I need to order components, it could take an additional 2 weeks.
If you change your mind, and want to cancel an order, contact me immediately. I can only accept a cancellation if I have not already shipped your item(s).
Shipping
I will insure shipments that cost over $50, and I include tracking in my shipping charges.

I ship through the US Postal Service (USPS). For international shipping I use USPS International. Note that several items shipped to Italy have spent several weeks in Customs, so international customers should be aware that shipping make take longer than expected.
Refunds and Exchanges
If you are not satisfied with an item, you can return it within 30 days for the full price of the item less shipping & handling. You will need to pay the return shipping.

For sanitary reasons, earrings are the exception, and cannot be returned.
Additional policies and FAQs
I try to keep my prices reasonable by using findings that are not as costly as 24K gold and sterling silver. Instead, I usually use gold-filled and silver-filled findings or high-quality plated findings. (The filled findings are coated with a thicker layer of the high-grade metal, which means they show less wear.) I also find that sterling silver seems to tarnish more quickly than many of the high-quality plated findings, which are often given a tarnish-resistant finish.

I pride myself on the quality of my work, but the woven pieces are made with thread, and thread can break. If this should happen, you can return the piece to me and I will be happy to fix it. Do try to return any stray beads, since I can't guarantee that I will still have the same beads.

Contact me before returning the piece, just to be sure I will be able to fix it, and we can discuss shipping charges at that time.
