Announcement   PAM (Portrait of the Artist as a Machine) is an assemblage electromechanical gadgets who makes paintings.
At the risk of breaking the rules of etsy, all the paintings for sale here are machine-made.
Well... made by a machine designed, built, and maintained by sculptor, Adam Shreckhise, that is...

Thank you for visiting this etsy shop and looking at PAM’s paintings.
At adamshreckhise.com, you can see all the parts of this machine, links to some video of PAM working, and some other projects of PAM’s creator. (The banner of this etsy shop is made of detail images of PAM.)
At portraitoftheartistasamachine.com, you can see PAM’s entire body of work, and links to press from the show in which PAM operated. Please contact me if you see a piece on this website that is not listed in this etsy shop that you'd like to purchase, and I can see about listing it for you.

PAM began painting on June 10th at the opening of the 2011 Pittsburgh Biennial. She shuts down on October 23rd. During those 4.5 months, PAM’s creator, Adam Shreckhise, fixed broken components and snapped wires; refilled pigment and liquid reservoirs; and tried to figure out how to adjust PAM’s wiring to help her build a successful body of work on a variety of surfaces. (Adam, ever the servant of his creations, also switched out the papers and canvases and documented PAM’s finished works)

The motors and switches of which PAM is built are wired with sufficient redundancies and self-adjusting behaviours to render her decisions at least quasi-random. This means that each of PAM’s paintings is a completely unique piece; and, if you accept the theory that abstract art gives you a way to see its creator's mind, then each of these paintings is a visualization of the mind of a machine.
