Bring the garden inside!

The Blooming Artichoke Herbary came about because, well frankly, because I'm an unrepentant plant geek. I'm also a textile artist. What's a girl to do with that? What I did was to start a perennial nursery where I propagate and grow the garden plants I love. Those plants then inspire my textile designs. The best of both worlds, an inside and an outside garden!

What you will find strolling through my Etsy shop are beautiful and practical botanical designs for your home. As a textile artist I use applique, embroidery, beading, paint, photography and other techniques together to reinterpret nature's lovely creations. Each piece is free-motion appliqued (no embroidery machines allowed) and so each piece will be unique. Since I'm a practical soul, the designs are worked onto things like pot holders, pillows, table runners, tea towels, etc. Items that can be useful as well as attractive in the home.

So, come see my indoor garden.

I'm all about plants. We operate a perennial and herb nursery, and that together with my own gardens, provide the inspiration for what I call my "indoor garden". Original appliqued designs of my favorite plants.

    In House Critics

Inanna and Freya, my original critics and fur bugs, have since passed on to the great catnip field. But we recently adopted two new kitties, Hades (came with that name) and Osiris (renamed to match his brother). They are sill learning the ropes.

Welcome to Blooming Artichoke!

All of the creations you find in the shop are handmade by me using free hand applique (no embroidery machines allowed) and then depending on the design and item, hand embroidered and/or beaded for embellishment. My goal is to bring the plants that I grow and love in our nursery into the home. I do that using applique work of my original designs, often drawn directly from plants in my own garden (the outside version).
