Living The Dream

I did not have the confidence to start painting full time until I was in my 50’s. Art is very liberating. My mother was an artist, and every piece she did was perfect, symmetrical and realistic. That is what I thought I had to do, in order to call myself an artist. I tried for many, many years to paint the perfect Iris, to perfect the landscape, to mix the correct skin tones. It just wasn’t me. That was stressful, and more of a job than a hobby.
My husband and I live on a farm. He is a Carpenter, and I am a Traditional Naturopath. I love farm life, and Louisiana life, and chickens! So, I decided that I would paint chickens. Then I imagined the chickens doing funny things, and I painted them. I laughed, I had fun, and I had finally found my spot in the art world.
My “Chicken on a Bicycle” was my first piece that placed in a contest, and was subsequently chisen to be in a showing at a local gallery. My heart was smiling. I paint fir me, to give myself a chuckle, to lower my blood pressure, and to leave a legacy of smiles behind when my time on earth is through.
I tend to paint in series, chickens, funny chickens, funky portraits, churches, barns, flowers....whatever my mind is focused on at the moment, usually ends up on several canvases before I lose interest and move on to the next fun project.
Thank you for taking the time to view my art, and if you have any subjects that you would like to order as a painting...drop me a line! Terri
