Announcement   Artisans of the Anvil is a shop that makes hand forged iron shelf brackets, pot racks, and housewares as well as large architectural work. Our work is hand-forged at the anvil using traditional blacksmith techniques.

We are a group of artist blacksmiths located in the Pocono mountains of Pennsylvania. Based in a 100 year old industrial building in Stroudsburg, Artisans was established in February of 2000. Our shop now has three full time smiths who all have different styles and aesthetics, but we share the common vision of keeping the craft of blacksmithing alive.

We are craftsmen who use traditional blacksmithing techniques to make products that speak to the modern world. We love making home furnishings, architectural work, and sculpture.

These are unique and gorgeous -- love them! The pictures are good, but they are even better than the photos. The workmanship and creativity are top-notch. I looked a long time to find just the right brackets, so these are even more special. These are holding a shelf for cups above the 'latte center' and look a bit like curling steam. Couldn't be happier with them!

We are absolutely THRILLED with our mantle brackets! I searched for a long time to find just the right ones that combined my taste with my husband's, and these more than surpassed what we expected (because our design taste differs so greatly). Lenka was a dream to work with on customizing these for our mantle, and Andrew's workmanship is spot on gorgeous. We got them up yesterday, and we really can't stop looking at them! Thank you thank you thank you ArtisiansoftheAnvil for making this a reality for us - we've been living with a floating mantle that I thought looked bizarre without brackets, and now they are 100% right.

About

Hot steel forged on an anvil. Just like the movies!

We are three very different guys who share a passion for blacksmithing. These unique perspectives allow us to collaborate creatively and make work we would be unable to make alone.

Until recently our shop mainly made architectural work, but through our Etsy store, we have been able really have some fun making home furnishings and sculpture.

We believe very strongly in preserving the craft of blacksmithing and try to convey that spirit in every piece we create.

Shop members

Andrew is the captain of the ship. Back in 2000, he opened the shop with a dream to bring beautiful ironwork to the masses. Nowadays, he has settled into the role of master smith and spends his time directing the other guys toward blacksmith zen.

Shipping
Everything we sell is made by hand. As most of our listings state, we try to have everything made and shipped out within a week. Sometimes we fall behind and it takes slightly longer. In these cases, we try to stay in contact with the client to update them on the status of their order.
Custom made orders take about 2 weeks.
Refunds and Exchanges
As far as the returns go, we are happy to take a return if you don't love your piece. We put so much passion into the work and want nothing more than for you to be totally satisfied. If it isn't perfect, send it back and we'll refund your money :-) We just ask that you take care of the return shipping unless of course the item was faulty or damaged.

Custom items can be returned on a case by case basis.
Additional policies and FAQs
Care and maintenance info for waxed ironwork.

All steel was hot forged resulting in a darkened patina. This was then power wire brushed to remove all dirt and fire scale. This also mellows the feel to a soft texture. The iron is then heated with a torch to approximately 300f degrees which excludes all moisture. Wax is applied at this temperature with a brush. After cooling the wax is buffed to a shine.

Maintenance:

The piece should receive similar treatment to antique furniture although it can be treated much more roughly. We recommend "Butcher's Wax" wax which is only available now through the internet. This is the wax used originally in our finishing. A much easier application is using spray or liquid wax. We recommend "Kotton Klenser", "Lemon Oil Beeswax", or "Goddard's Furniture Polish". These applied as a spot treatment for rusting or as a general maintenance every three to six months is great. After a while the wax will build up and application of wax can drop off to once every two years or so. Depending on the conditions it may not need it for 10 years. We find it is quite variable.

Avoid wax products with cleaning agents. They will strip the original coating of wax. Definitely avoid any detergents or harsh cleaners.
