The gold leaf of “The Constance” with the beautiful blue of “Plains Morning, Christmas” is a stunning combination. And another perfect framing job by Mr. Shanabrook!

Perfectly splendid! A vast lovely expanse, that empty solitary plain, an ice blue mystery. The snow kisses the field and all it falls upon, until banked it holds fast to buried secrets, the drifts curling along a dark horizon they share with the sky. A cold beauty that would hold just as much splendor were no one present.

The Constance is the perfect frame to showcase “A Heart Very Broken” and, of course, a perfect framing job by Mr. Shanabrook!

Another excellent framing job by Mr. Shanabrook! The ebony finish of “The Silas” beautifully accentuates the colors of “Everything’s Going to Be All Right”, making painting and frame a perfect pair.

Captivating! The enigma of hope and heartache. Another extraordinary landscape by Mr. Shanabrook, this time shown in a wonderfully rich saturation of happy color and playful composition set against the throb of a sorrowful heart, the likes of which are described by D. H. Lawrence in his poem, “Pomegranate”: “For my part, I prefer my heart to be broken. It is so lovely, dawn-kaleidoscopic within the crack.” There is such beauty and hope in the wreckage, and resolve, too, as the impartial sun casts as much buttery-yellow warmth on heartache, as on house and field. A portrait of resilience, that obstinate little thing within that beats a mantra that hope is not lost, but merely truant, and that “someday” is a promise to oneself worth keeping.

Such an engaging landscape from Mr. Shanabrook! A portrait of ‘hope’ with the words to soothe a troubled soul. The elements within the painting are rendered in wonderfully vibrant colors and geometric shapes, all reminiscent of childhood: a small blue house on a green hill with a little red sun that looks much like a child’s patterned red ball (or perhaps, upon further study, a polyhedron kite with a diaphanous tail). It’s a bucolic setting and an idyllic scene filled with happy colors under a sky, cloudy-gray and brooding. The words that are tendered are a salve, not a platitude; they’re intended to calm and reassure a worried mind and an anguished heart. They are a comfort that one never outgrows, a fervent hope that it should always be so - that everything's truly all right in the end.
