About

From drank to drunk...

For a long time I thought I was going to be a writer — I was totally that kid that was still scribbling furiously long after our English teacher said, “Time’s up.” And yeah, I was always the first to volunteer to read out loud, too.

But underneath those nerdy layers was a skateboarding, ball-playin', fishin’-with-my-dad tomboy. I wasn’t grossed out by blood, and craved horror movies. I was attracted to mysteries and adventure and was fascinated by much of the world.

By 4th grade I decided I'd like to be forensic photographer. My parents found a way to keep me out of their hair and bought me my first point and shoot camera. Between that and a boatload of disposable cameras, by high school I was up to my eyeballs in memories.

----

But, inevitably, kids grow up and experience things that mold and shape them into their adult self. Even if the experience is as simple as falling off a bike, braiding your hair for the first time or getting your first (paid) job.

For me that experience was discovering alcohol at 14 and subsequently being diagnosed an alcoholic at 17 and spending the next ten years grappling with my inner demons. Don't get me wrong, though, I had a wonderfully wild time. I traveled, hiked the Grand Canyon, took eye-opening trips, created art, made good friends, and did anything I wanted. But that was only fun before I learned the hard learned what I wanted and didn't want out of life.

Thanks to my wonderful family and my 'just get over it' attitude, I came out alive and am hellbent on reaching my potential and essentially making up for lost time. I do this by getting into anything anything I can - from trying entirely new things, discovering new talents, and fostering old interests I long ago had abandoned. Most recently I enrolled in Improv courses at Second City and will continue the levels as soon as it's fiscally responsible to do so. I've even begun ASL courses (which I've wanted to do for 16 years now) and subjected myself to Open Mic Stand-up.

While I may not be fearless anymore, I am working on it. I'm still easily excited and love to discover and explore myself and the world around me through creating meaningful art.

That is what my shop is about: staying curious, embracing our differences, and being 100% awesome!
