Finally got around to listing something new. Ha ha. Lame procrastinator humor. But relevant! Check it out!
Cats don't need affirmations for well-being or anything else. These are for humans seeking a more catlike state of mind.
These mini notebooks fit in purse or pocket for note jotting on the go. But you can't buy them -- you get one free with any order. Yep, it's one of those free gifts you hear about. Score!

About

Making little books, cards, and calendars driven by curiosity and zen playfulness

I am inspired by curiosity and a love of art and functional design, coupled with a zeal to share what I find fascinating, beautiful, useful, and valuable. To me, that means crafting things that people can really use to do ordinary things better and with more joy, while helping them to understand and appreciate one another and the natural world a little bit more.

I also like figuring things out, and working with paper and other book arts materials and methods to design useful things that delight — to invent a better calendar, you might say: I make a calendar that is filled with tidbits of information about many cultures; I've designed a notebook that helps you be more organized in your note jotting; I've created some amusing and informative chapbooks (aka zines); and many of my notecards have information on the back about the animal featured on the front.

My shop name, Arty Didact, is a play on auto didact, which means a self-educating person. Also, didactic art is art that informs or educates.

But I don't want to get too serious about any of that, and I certainly don't want people to experience my creations as too, well, didactic! So I try to infuse my work with the joy and playfulness that I feel when researching, designing, and creating them.

I hope you will find something here that meets a need, makes you smile, tickles your curiosity, answers a question—or raises one!

Greetings! My shop offers a quirky mix of cards, zines and chapbooks, notebooks and journals, bookplates, calendars, and little DIY gift boxes that are sometimes informative, often playfully zen, and always useful. I enjoy the process of "inventing" as well as creating, and I'm something of an information geek, so all of that gets jumbled together in the rather eclectic mix of things you'll find here. I hope you enjoy browsing, and if you find something to buy, that would be really swell!

Payment
I can accept any of the major credit cards via PayPal or directly through Etsy.
Shipping
I ship most items in one to three days, except Sundays and holidays. Custom items may take longer, especially if I'm waiting for replies to my messages. I can speed up my process if you need something in a hurry, so please ask if this is so. If you select Priority Mail (for US addresses), I will assume you are in a hurry and try to get your order out within a day.

I ship via first class mail for most things, and will use Priority Mail for US addresses when selected at checkout or when combined shipping charges cover the cost of Priority Mail. I'll refund excess shipping charges if the actual shipping and handling cost is less, which can sometimes happen when you buy several items (I do try to allow for that in the way that I set the charges).

If you live in Minneapolis/St. Paul and would like to arrange to pick up your order, please use coupon code LOCALPICKUP to waive the shipping charge and I'll contact you to arrange a pick-up time. I can also refund shipping if you didn't use the code. I live in South Minneapolis's Longfellow neighborhood.

SHIPPING TO OUTSIDE THE US: I use first class international mail, which comes with tracking in some countries. I do expect buyers to take care of any local taxes and customs fees on their end, and I do not know what those might be.

You may find the following websites helpful in estimating import duty, customs fees, and VAT costs:

For EU countries: http://www.importcalculator.com

For the UK: https://www.nibusinessinfo.co.uk/content/calculating-customs-charges-when-importing-post

For all countries (this is a Pitney Bowes site and may have a limited number of free searches per person): http://www.dutycalculator.com/new-import-duty-and-tax-calculation/
Refunds and Exchanges
Please contact me right away if you are unhappy with your purchase. I will do my best to resolve your issue quickly, including sending a replacement or issuing a refund if appropriate. If you've simply changed your mind and no longer want the item, contact me within 14 days of receiving it to let me know you are returning it, and once I receive it, I will refund your purchase price. If you are in the EU, I will comply with the EU consumer directive and refund your initial shipping cost, too (but return shipping is on you).
Additional policies and FAQs
I welcome requests for custom orders and special requests, and will let you know quickly if it's something I can do or not.

Frequently asked questions

Custom and personalized orders

I can change the text on cards as well as book plates; all book plate listings include a custom option for $8 extra. If you want custom printing on cards, please contact me to work out the details.

I do not do custom drawings or pet portraits, sorry! Neither can I alter an existing drawing.

Gift wrapping and packaging

Gift wrapping is always an option if you request it in the message to seller.

Wholesale availability

I offer quantity discounts on cards (which are $4 per single card) through existing listings of 5 cards for $15 and 10 cards for $20. Since the 10-card deal is already marked down to half price, that is the same as wholesale and available to all customers. Some other items are available for wholesale (quantity discounts). Please ask if interested.
