Welcome to Asterisk and None. Thanks for stopping by!
Tired of getting your phone or cookbook all dirty when following a recipe?
The solution is an Asterisk and None recipe towel! Choose from six classic vintage recipes that my mom made us growing up. These are digitally printed from the original pages from a family cookbook. They come pre-stained so you won’t have to worry about keeping your recipe clean and you can throw it in the wash. Can’t do that with your phone, can you?
I created these towels - replicas of my mother's best and most time-honored recipes as a way to honor her. My hope is that they inspire you to make your own memories over a home-cooked meal.
What’s In a Name?
Legend has it that coming up with first names for my sister and I was hard enough so our parents just didn’t give us middle names. When I came across our birth certificates hers had an * (Asterisk) under the space for the middle name, mine had the word (None). So that’s how the name Asterisk and None came to be!
Note on shipping:
To reduce planet waste and keep shipping costs down I use recycled boxes and other clean bubble wrap and peanuts whenever possible.

Here is the cookbook that inspired the Recipe Towels!
Why Recipe Towels
I grew up in Marin County in the ‘70s and ‘80s. Our family moved houses a lot. We were often in transition - getting used to new surroundings, new neighbors, new routes to school. The one thing that was consistent growing up was my mother's cooking. No matter what, she always had a meal on the table, prepared with love at the end of the day.
More than anything, my mom wanted to write a cookbook. Unfortunately, she passed before this dream came true, but her recipe collection remains a powerful reminder to me of her love of family and a good meal. She'd collect her favorite recipes and write or type them out on blue lined paper kept in a binder that was covered in kitchen wallpaper. That cookbook with the stained pages of favorite recipes became a beloved family treasure and serves as the inspiration for these towels.
I created these towels - replicas of her best and most time-honored recipes as a way to honor her and her spirit. My hope is that they inspire you to make your own memories over a home-cooked meal.
Bon Appetit!
