I have a "joy journal" already and bought this one for a friend of mine. I love how it makes whatever you write in it seem important because it is so beautiful!

About

The Joy of Valuing Your Story

I think I first started making as an elementary school-aged child. One day my father brought home the box x-ray film came in from the clinic where he worked. He made a few cuts, and before I knew it, he had made me a book. I was delighted to have a "book" that was filled with my work. I drew and drew and drew. I designed gardens. I sketched my neighbors houses. I brainstormed and created bright contemporary designs and motifs. The joy of making ran deep.

Putting pen to paper has been a vital part of my life. It has captured professors lectures (and sometimes my own opinions about the subject!). I've doodled on envelopes to loved friends and family. I've poured out my thoughts, observations, experiences, and emotions onto pages of journals. I've drawn beauty.

A few years ago I started pairing color and texture together in handmade cards. It was the start of a new chapter for me! I would send these little bits of art off to friends, sharing my heart and offering love. One day I had a friend tell me she'd love to have a journal... I like to journal, so the idea appealed to me. I looked at books and online tutorials and taught myself how to put together a journal from start to finish. And in taking on that adventure to bring joy to my friend, I was hooked!

And now, as I record my story, I love knowing that the art I shape in my hands will help you record your own stories. Who wouldn't take joy in that?

I spent 15 years in a tiny town called Ava, where I learned to create. After college I moved to San Diego where I experienced a culture that values art, and that encouraged me to keep going creatively. Now I'm back in the Midwest, living the dream!
