What can I say, the colors fit my daughter so well. She's super happy to play as SuperHilla and fly around the place (on daddy's firm but gentle arms... of course :)). Could no be happier about choice of materials... happy not to wear something made out of glorified plastic on my little girl. ... also I can actually wash this cape if and when it gets dirty.

About

Welcome to Atelier Spatz!

There is a seafarer's chest in my parents' attic full of vintage and hand made costumes, which my family – including my own children now - go to, to get dressed up. These clothes allow us to transform ourselves and become part of our imagination. They are all beautifully handmade and have endured generations of wearers. I wish every house has a chest like that, for those moments of blissful childhood and joy!

Missing from that chest was a bird cape. And so - a few years ago now - I made one, and then another and I haven't stopped ever since. I now don't just make bird capes, but everything else a child could possibly imagine wanting to dress-up in. That is why I call myself the tailor to the fantastic dreams of your kids' dress-up closet.

Having sewn, embroidered, knitted, and crafted since I was a kid, my aim is to make high quality, handmade, durable, and unique costumes.

Have a look at my facebook or instagram page to keep up-to-date with my creations!

Frequently asked questions

Sizing details

All costumes are/can be made to measure. Sizing options within each listing refer to standard measures within each age group and have been tried and tested on actual children. They also work as a guide to estimate the amount of fabric needed to make the garment based on the standard measurements within each age group.

Please get in touch to provide the measurement of you child unless you want the garment to be made in standard measurements.

Custom and personalised orders

Nothing is more enjoyable than creating something for the very first time. Please don't hesitate to be in touch to commission a custom order of a garment or accessory.

Care instructions

I recommend all my costumes to be dry cleaned.

Some items can be spot cleaned, please contact me if you need instructions.

Pirates: Shirts and Trousers are washable at 30C.

Bird Capes: They can be ironed. However, please be very careful and iron them only from the wrong side (the inside of the cape). If the cape gets creased during storage, hang it out (possibly in a steamy bathroom), then iron at low temperatures from the wrong side.

Superheroes: The cape and cuffs are made from pure cotton to ensure safety (low flammability) and durability for the kids. They do crease. You can iron them, but don't use steam or directly contact the metallic fabric.

Clown Collars: Those made from pure satin can be washed as delicates at 30C.
