Audiowood manufactures and sells distinctively styled, sustainably-produced audio gear and other home accessories. Audiowood products include solid wood turntables, energy-efficient amplifiers, home speakers, lighting, and other electronic accessories.
Audiowood was founded in 2008 by Joel Scilley, a longtime carpenter and woodworker, ex-academic, designer, and troublemaker. Joel's resume includes studies of art, architecture and design in New York and Europe, and miscellaneous degrees from Hobart College, Carnegie Mellon, and the University of Pittsburgh.
Joel’s Audiowood designs have been exhibited at major shows in California, Florida, Texas, and Colorado, and have been featured in The New York Times, California Home and Design, Wired (Germany), Metropolitan Home, Visi (South Africa) and dozens of other international magazines, webzines and design blogs. In 2011, Joel was named one of “8 Independent Tech Designers to Watch” by Apartment Therapy. In 2012 he also garnered two regional awards: a Dandi Award for entrepreneurship in the category of “Accidental Entrepreneur,” and First Prize in the Art in Gadsden exhibition at the Gadsden Arts Center in Quincy, FL. Audiowood’s Bachelor Turntable is featured in Paramount Pictures' Star Trek: Into Darkness.
