Reclaimed Yarns and Earth Friendly Knit Goods

I really wanted to experiment with all kinds of yarn but I didn’t have the money to really invest in things like wool or cashmere. I had a huge supply of acrylic thanks to other people cleaning out their closets and occasionally I got some cotton (which seemed pretty fancy that the time). I stumbled across some websites where people discussed reclaiming yarn from sweaters. Most of these sweaters came from their own closets or thrift stores and for a few dollars (or even for free) these people got a huge pile of yarn from one sweater! I was instantly hooked. I was already an avid thrift store shopper so I just added another aisle to my routine and I began to hunt for the good stuff.

My first couple of tries were an adventure but soon I had a mountain of yarn. I learned how to knit and block lace, dye various fibers, felt wool, and how to make all kinds of mistakes and messes. I kept saying that I would love to sell this yarn because there was no way I could use all of it. Most of the time I enjoyed the shopping and unraveling more than the knitting so when I had the space and resources I opened my shop!

All of my sweaters are purchased from charitable thrift stores near where I live. My favorite one is the Salem Friends of Felines Thrift Store. I love their mission statement:
“To help as many homeless cats and kittens as we can by placing them in loving permanent homes; to reduce feline over-population through education and our spay/neuter assistance program; and to bring more public awareness to the plight of homeless and unwanted cats.”

The first step in my process (after purchasing the sweaters) is to rip out all of the seams gently. I avoid making any holes or putting any stress on the fibers. I then wind the yarn onto a yarn swift and try to note any knots or inconsistencies in the yarn. I measure the yarn and then wash it in a gentle, unscented wool wash. The yarn is hung to dry without any weight. I wash the yarn in hanks rather that washing the whole sweater because I feel that the yarn gets cleaner this way. It allows any extra fuzzies or anything else to be rinsed out of the yarn. The final steps are to weigh, tag, photograph, and list the yarn.

I’m working on adding more hand knit items to my shop. All of the hand knit items are made from some of the yarn I reclaim. I’m also adding more hand dyed yarn as well. My hand knit items are also designed by me and I will be releasing patterns after they are written and tested. I really want my shop to be a place where my ideas and talents can grow and I hope you’ll be a part of that.

Welcome to my shop! All yarns in this shop are reclaimed from sweaters that are purchased from local and charitable thrift stores. The sweaters are carefully unraveled and the yarn is gently washed and hung un-weighted to dry. I buy quality fibers and I do my best to make sure every last scrap of the sweater is used. The sweater unraveling process can be really time consuming but you can still reap the benefits of affordable upcycled yarn.
I’m currently working on expanding my selection to include a larger variety of yarns, items that are knit from reclaimed yarn, and patterns. Visit my blog ( for more information about my store and for coupon codes!

::: What to do if you don't have a PayPal account. :::
Once you've added your items to your cart and click "checkout", you'll be redirected to a PayPal page. Look for the "Don't have a PayPal account?" link towards the bottom of the page and you will have the option to checkout as a "guest".

If you have a coupon code, it MUST be entered during checkout. After you have entered your payment info via PayPal, you will be redirected back to Etsy and a link to "apply coupon code" will appear in the upper right corner of your checkout page under "How I'll Pay". If the code is entered correctly, you will see the discount applied before submitting your order. Please note that I cannot honor coupon codes after the transaction has been made -- this includes coupon codes that are entered into the "notes" section of the transaction. If you have a question about a coupon code you can message me and I typically respond in less than 24 hours.
Please make sure your PayPal address is up to date, as that is the address I will use.

I typically ship orders out on Tuesdays but may ship things out through out the week as orders are received. Items are shipped using USPS with Delivery Confirmation.

I try to reuse shipping materials as much as possible. I save every box and scrap of packaging that my own orders come in and try to use those before buying or using anything new. This means lower shipping costs and less waste. I still make sure any packaging is still in very good condition.
Please ask if you have any other questions or concerns regarding shipping
