Announcement    20+ years ago, Awl Made Here was born on a whim on St John in the US Virgin Islands. As I grew, learning the how-to's of working with different leathers and new tools, the business grew. Who knew that leather-work would end up being my calling!? Now located in Southport NC, I am happy and working hard, I have a great studio & a great home.
Any questions about my work, don't hesitate...
Thanks!

About

The truth is...

I opened my Etsy store in 2012, prematurely, I admit. I had been told about Etsy repeatedly, and decided to give it a try. I was NOT comfortable on the computer yet, so it was only occasionally that I'd add a new listing (and therefore only occasionally that I'd make a sale). All the while though, there it sat, waiting patiently for me to realize its potential.
At that time I had just closed down a storefront I'd been running for 17 years, a brick & mortar business that kept me very busy with my leather-work. I decided to close because leases were up and it was time to renew for 5-10 years, or not. I decided I was ready for a change. I shifted my focus to building my website & establishing an online presence...including Etsy.
I am presently supplying stores & boutiques with my leather goods (wholesaling, as well as consigning), participating in outdoor markets & fairs, and filling online orders.

I've been in business as Awl Made Here since 1994. One reason things still feel "fresh", is the fact that I keep things changing and I keep trying out new ideas. Fortunately, in working with leather, the possibilities are endless!

Care instructions

Leather is a natural product. Hides vary in color, finish, shape & size, making every piece of leather - and the things made from it - one of a kind.
Some leathers will surface scratch more than others. No need for alarm, this is normal. Usually a good buffing (rub in circular motions with a clean, dry rag) will do the trick.
If you want your leather to last and last, every now and again you’ll want to condition it. Good products are saddle soap, mink oil, or neatsfoot oil (you can find these at most hardware stores). Try a test spot first though, as these products may darken your leather. Note: they are not to be used on suede! Follow the product directions as advised.
Care instructions, if applicable, will be included with your order.
