Announcement   I also write fiction, which you can see at https://www.patreon.com/MarkKemp . I still have lots of glass here for sale, but get it while you can. I had to move to a location where I can't use my kiln, so my glass career has ended. Thanks and much appreciation to all my customers over the many years.

About

From Shows to Etsy

I sold my glass at shows, markets, and festivals for many years. Then in 2007 my new love introduced me to Etsy. She, and I, and Etsy have done well in the years since. While there are some good things about selling in person, I love having customers all over the world.

My art started out with the written word. While I had a degree of success writing fiction, I came to see that my approach was very visual, and realized that I needed to work in a visual medium. I have tried many, but after a friend showed me the basics of stained glass, glass became the main focus of my work. For me, working with glass is like working with light, which is why I work mostly with transparent glass. But I like too many materials, such as wood, metals, and things I pick up in the forest and on the beach, to stick strictly to glass, so I combine it with other things when possible.

Over the past few years, I've found that my best sellers on Etsy are rainbows and wind chimes, so the shop has become heavily oriented toward those. A more recent addition is the Science and Medicine section, reflecting my lifelong amateur interest in science and health.

Shop policies

The personal interaction between maker/seller and buyer are what make Etsy so different from other "stores". It is more like the experience when selling/buying at shows and festivals. So please feel free to "convo" me with questions or whatever.

Accepted payment methods

  • Accepts Etsy Gift Cards and Etsy Credits
Returns and exchanges
I don't accept returns, exchanges, or cancellations
But please contact me if you have any problems with your order.
No returns or exchanges without prior approval -- please contact me no more than three days after delivery of the item. Custom orders are non-returnable and non-refundable. Exceptions are solely at my discretion. In the cases of a defective item, I will replace or refund, depending on what seems best to me. Other refunds will be at my discretion, and will not include shipping charges. The buyer will be responsible for return postage for non-defective items. I want you to be happy with your purchase, so if there is any problem, please contact me so that we can discuss it. For legal reasons I need to be clear here, but I try to treat others as I would wish to be treated.
Payment
I accept Paypal and Etsy Direct Checkout. You should make payment when placing your order. When paying with a Credit or Debit Card, you may pay right on Etsy using Etsy Direct Checkout, or go to Paypal (whether or not you have a Paypal account.). When paying from your Paypal account, you will be redirected to Paypal as usual. For custom orders, I will create a reserved listing for you, and request payment be made prior to creating the piece.
Shipping
***If you order more than one item, the shipping for additional items in most cases is much less. Etsy is now only showing the combined total shipping charge after you put the items in your cart.***

+++If you are ordering from the UK, please read "Additional Policies and FAQs" below.+++

I ship USPS, either First Class or Priority Mail, depending on the item. The shipping cost approximates actual shipping charges, plus a small amount to offset packaging costs, and insurance. I try to break even on shipping overall, and not make a profit on it. Most of the time I ship within one or two business days, but sometimes circumstances might make it take a bit longer -- if there is going to be much of a delay, I will let you know. If you would like your order sent to a different address than your own, please temporarily change your ship-to address.
Additional policies and FAQs
For orders from outside the United States: I can't know the regulations of all countries, so it needs to be your responsibility to know if an item is acceptable for import into your country. Remember, too, that you are responsible for any customs duty or taxes your country may choose to impose. The UK may charge VAT and a £8 post office charge on orders over £15, and they seem to be checking more packages. I welcome your business, but I don't want you unhappily surprised by unexpected charges. Canadians should also be aware of possible VAT and other charges.

I generally ship to addresses outside the United States using USPS International First Class Mail. If you prefer something be mailed by International Priority Mail (which costs considerably more), please contact me.
Privacy
This Privacy Policy describes how and when I collect, use, and share information when you purchase an item from me, contact me, or otherwise use my services through Etsy.com or its related sites and services.

This Privacy Policy does not apply to the practices of third parties that I do not own or control, including Etsy or any third party services you access through Etsy. You can reference the Etsy Privacy Policy to learn more about its privacy practices.
Information I Collect
To complete your purchase, you must provide me with certain information (which you authorized Etsy to provide to me), such as your name, email address, postal address, and the details of the item that you are purchasing. (Etsy never shares your financial information such as payment cards with me, so I never have them.)
Why I Need Your Information and How I Use It
I rely on a number of legal bases to collect, use, and share your information, including:
• as needed to provide my services, such as when I use your information to complete your purchase, to settle disputes, or to provide customer support;
• if necessary to comply with a legal obligation or court order or in connection with a legal claim, such as retaining information about your purchases if required by tax law; and
• as necessary for the purpose of my legitimate interests, if those legitimate interests are not overridden by your rights or interests, such as 1) providing and improving my services. I use your information to provide the services you requested and in my legitimate interest to improve my services; and 2) Compliance with the Etsy Seller Policy and Terms of Use. I use your information as necessary to comply with my obligations under the Etsy Seller Policy and Terms of Use.

Information Sharing and Disclosure
Information about my customers is important to my business. I share your personal information for very limited reasons and in limited circumstances, as follows:
• Etsy. I share information with Etsy as necessary to provide you my services and comply with my obligations under both the Etsy Seller Policy and Etsy Terms of Use.
• Service providers. I engage certain trusted third parties to perform functions and provide services to my shop, such as delivery companies. I will share your personal information with these third parties, but only to the extent necessary to perform these services.

• Compliance with laws. I may collect, use, retain, and share your information if I have a good faith belief that it is reasonably necessary to: (a) respond to legal process or to government requests; (b) enforce my agreements, terms and policies; (c) prevent, investigate, and address fraud and other illegal activity, security, or technical issues; or (d) protect the rights, property, and safety of my customers, or others.

Data Retention
I retain your personal information only for as long as necessary to provide you with my services and as described in my Privacy Policy. However, I may also be required to retain this information to comply with my legal and regulatory obligations, to resolve disputes, and to enforce my agreements.
Your Rights
If you reside in certain territories, you have a number of rights in relation to your personal information. While some of these rights apply generally, certain rights apply only in certain limited cases. I describe these rights below:
• Access. You may have the right to access and receive a copy of the personal information I hold about you by contacting me using the contact information below.
• Change, restrict, delete. You may also have rights to change, restrict my use of, or delete your personal information. Absent exceptional circumstances (like where I am required to store data for legal reasons) I will generally delete your personal information upon request.
• Object. You can object to (i) my processing of some of your information based on my legitimate interests and (ii) receiving marketing messages from me after providing your express consent to receive them. In such cases, I will delete your personal information unless I have compelling and legitimate grounds to continue using that information or if it is needed for legal reasons.

How to Contact Me

Frequently asked questions

Allergies?

I work in a non-smoking house with cats. If you have other allergy or chemical-sensitivity issues please contact me through Etsy's Conversation system.

Can I hear your Wind Chimes?

You can hear the sound of a representative sample of my wind chimes on my blog at: http://azurefireart.blogspot.com

Are Your Wind Chimes Durable?

People are naturally curious about the durability of glass in wind. I take extra care with the glass pieces to keep them strong. I have had them out in heavy winds on the Oregon Coast without breakage, and I've gotten no reports over the years of any problem. Of course, glass can break, so I recommend taking them down during high winds. Be sure to hang them securely so they cannot fall of the hook they are hung on, and place them so they won't bang into any hard surfaces, and don't drop them.

Sending as a Gift?

If you would like your order sent to a different address than your own, please temporarily change your ship-to address. Otherwise if I need to change the address, there could be additional charges, because shipping is calculated based on location. I am happy to enclose a gift card: just let me know what you would like written on it. I enclose a packing slip with each order which does not include prices.
