Announcement   I use the best papers!
Each journal in this shop is handcrafted and hand-stitched with high-quality papers, for artists and writers of all ages and experience levels. No two are alike; each is own work of art, ready to be completed by you.

I recycle books being thrown out by 3 local libraries, plus our local recycling center and many friends (and friends of friends). I also use a lot of old, outdated atlases and maps.

My studio is an "almost Zero-Waste" enterprise, with about 95 % recycled and an extensive paper-composting-project, where I am building soil biomass on my land for perennial food systems.

Feel free to ask questions or request additional photos of any listing!

If the journal you just 'favorited' has suddenly disappeared, I probably sold it in person at a Farmer's or Holiday Market (especially Saturdays). To prevent this from happening, I'm more than happy to hold something for you, please just ask.

I strive to keep my prices affordable, but don't hesitate to ask about quantity discounts or trades.

As I work out shipping costs for my various items, please know I will refund any overpayment for shipping as soon as possible.

Please come visit me in my studio & bindery on beautiful Lopez Island, located in the heart of the San Juan Archipelago, Washington State.

Spring Sale!
I'm in need of a lot of supplies for the upcoming season, so I've moved a lot of Journals into the "on sale" section of my shop and temporarily lowered prices on many other items.
Check it out and happy Spring...

About

Sketchbooks & Journals for artists, writers, and low-tech creativity...anyplace, anytime, no recharging necessary.

Since 2011 I have been manifesting my true happiness, which is working full-time as an artist and bookbinder. I began with making my own sketchbooks...then it snowballed into something much larger.

Journals are portable, electricity-free places to hold and record observation and inspiration and feel like a helpful thing to contribute.

I now help 3 local libraries by 'upcycling' the antique/vintage hardcovers that they are unable to sell or give away anyplace else, saving dump fees and more waste (Public Libraries are not rolling in money, either).

Personally, I live on a quiet country road, on a tiny island near the Canadian border. My home is a pimped-out school bus with wood heat and no plumbing...an original 'tiny house'. I lived for years without power but now have both a small amount of 'grid' power as well as 12-volt solar. As a highly sensitive person I need to be surrounded by visual beauty and calm, and so I am.

I've never been more content! My customers give me some of my best design ideas and push my skill level ever higher. I won't be doing this forever, so I'm just trying to enjoy it.
I am filled with gratitude each day that this experiment and 'life as art project' keeps working out.
