Hi! My name is Aina Melis and I am the mind and the hands behind BcnTku Art Studio.
I´m a Mallorcan artist, graduated in Fine Arts at the university in Barcelona, which is the place I love the most, and were I lived for many years. That is the BCN in BcnTku. Later on I moved to Turku in the south-west Finland, were I have formed my family and started this project, thats the TKU.
I am a mother of two small ones, and I share the studio and life with the father of them, who also happens to be a creative mind. I love to listen loud music and drink lots of tea whilst I work.
My favourite technique has always been the graphite pencil, I like to softly scratch the surface of the paper in order to create many different tones of grey constructing gradient scales, aesthetically with the appearance of magnetic fields. The same applies to the use of the gradient lines, creating a composition that appears and disappears from the paper because of its visual elasticity.
Lately, my willing for experimenting in arts has lead me to translate my visual ideas into another of my favourite techniques, the linocut printing, which i love. I am a person of process and printing its all about the process.
I use both basic shapes and mainly primary colours to fill the empty space, so the lines fluid together leading to precise and balanced geometric compositions where the ideas of symmetry-asymmetry and pulling and letting go play the main role. The use of classic minimalistic compositions and my love for suprematism, and the Bauhaus ideas and aesthetics, show constantly in my work.
