The single side headband has beautiful colors and dimension. The feathers are durable...perfect for festival and ball season! Can't wait to show this one off!

This is not my first purchase from Tora/Black Iris Creations. I have at least a dozen of her pieces. The styles and colors she uses are always inspirational and ever evolving...perfect for my every day attire or festival ware. I just can't get enough. These new pieces make a great addition to my Black Iris Collection!

This headdress is amazing. Fits great, lighter than it looks and I can't wait to wear it out. Who am I kidding I may just wear it to vacuum my house.

Made With Magic

Black Iris Creations first sparked into existence in 2009 when I acquired a habit of pinning flowers and feathers into my crazy mane of multicolor hair. As I went, the arrangements got increasingly intricate and my friends began prompting me to make my pieces into hair clips so they could wear them too. Meanwhile I was closing in on completing my degree in interior design, but it felt like something wasn't quite right. I wanted to design and make beautiful, textured, elaborate creations, but not rooms and spaces. And then, when making a steampunk top hat for my cousin's birthday, I made a realization. Some of the same paint effects and construction techniques I'd picked up in my interior design classes overlapped into the hat I was making. The process was fun, the result looked great, but the look on my cousin's face was what sealed the deal. He was absolutely ecstatic, and the hat immediately became a trademark piece for him. I knew then that I'd stumbled upon something special.

From there I started doing projects for myself and friends and then finally, in April 2011, I worked up the nerve to walk into a little shop called Distractions on Haight Street here in San Francisco. They fell in love with my work, and with me, and started carrying my creations as well as hiring me to work there as a stylist. For three and a half years I got the amazing opportunity to sell my creations alongside beautiful neo Victorian, steampunk and Burning Man attire. And then, I decided to finally go to Burning Man myself, and amidst all of the preparation I suddenly, the day before departure, realized it was time to quit my job and start full time on my creations. I decided that if I could do Burning Man, which I had always been too scared to go to, then I could do this too. What followed was a week that changed my life, and when I got back I started the preparations to strike out on my own.

And now, I am pleased to welcome you to the next chapter of my life. Every piece I make has become a step in an amazing adventure, and I invite you now to accompany me on it.

Welcome to Black Iris Creations, home to unique wearable art creations that are one-of-a-kind and completely customizable. I've been running this one-pony circus since 2010, when I started selling my work through 'Distractions' on Haight Street in San Francisco. I've been spoiled by the excitement of getting to meet my clients in person, but I'm finally diving into the Etsy world as well. I love getting as much input from my clients as possible, so don't be afraid to send me long emails and lots of inspiration pictures. I am dedicated to giving every client exactly what they want, and I believe wholeheartedly in giving my art all I have. No project is too small, no challenge to big, and each piece gets my full attention. I hold my work to the highest aesthetic standards, and pride myself on the comfort and durability of my wearable art creations. I work hard, fast and passionately so you get exactly what you want, and I produce another piece that I am proud to call a Black Iris Creation.

Returns and exchanges

Your 100% satisfaction is important to me! If you have ANY issue - contact me at black.x.iris[!at] immediately. If you wish to return or exchange your item - send me an email with reason for return and I will provide the shipping return address. Returns and exchanges must be completed within 21 days of the item's arrival.

If there is a situation where the item is not damaged - but it is different than you hoped or expected (essentially an issue of personal taste), exchanges are accepted, but not refunds. Please note that I do my best to represent the item descriptions and measurements and photos - please look carefully and ask any questions BEFORE making your purchase. I am happy to do an exchange with free delivery for an equally priced item upon return of the original item. Buyer pays return shipping for original item, artist pays shipping for replacement item. Each purchase may only be exchanged once, and only within 21 days of the item's arrival.

I cannot be responsible for lost or damaged merchandise unless insurance is purchased for package. CONTACT ME BEFORE OR AT PURCHASE TO ADD INSURANCE. I make my pieces to be resilient, but they are somewhat delicate by their nature. If your item breaks due to normal usage (I cannot be responsible if it’s squashed in the car door or stepped on, for instance) please ship the item back and I will happily fix it and return it to you! Buyer pays shipping both ways but repairs are free and are offered for life. Send me an email at black.x.iris [!at] and we can work out the details.
I accept Credit Cards and Paypal only. Please note that shipments will be delayed until payment clears the bank. Don't forget to log onto paypal to complete your transaction.

If you need to cancel a purchase, please contact me within 24 hours. If no payment has been made within 3 days I will contact buyer with a reminder. If no word or payment is received from buyer within 5 days of being contacted with a reminder items will be relisted and negative feedback will be given.

California purchases will be charged sales tax. Customs fees, tariffs, duties, taxes, or brokerage fees (which may be charged upon delivery) are not included in the item price or shipping charge and are the sole responsibility of the buyer.
Ready to ship orders are shipped within 3-5 days of payment clearing paypal or the bank, and custom orders will be shipped within 10-12 business days unless otherwise specified. If you need an item sooner please send me a note and I'll do my best to meet your schedule. I ship all packages to the address you provide to Etsy. If you would like me to ship to a different address please sent me a note here on Etsy. Orders are sent 1st class in a mailing envelope or wrapped and boxed.

PLEASE NOTE! USPS international shipping rates increased. I have accounted for in my shipping costs.

Please know that I am not able to be liable for domestic and international loss or theft. The post office does not issue guaranteed delivery with first class international post. When you purchase you accept the risk of your package not being insured against loss or theft. I deliver all packages directly inside the post office and once they are shipped I am no longer responsible for any losses. International priority shipping starts at about $33 a package.

The US post office does provide tracking numbers for domestic first class mail. However this only tracks a package rather than insures it. Insurance must be purchased additionally. Notify us before your purchase if you'd like to add shipping insurance.

I am happy to ship to all international buyers to countries that will accept Pay Pal. Your items will be shipped as soon as the Pay Pal payment has cleared. I will ship your items using the Unites States Postal Service First Class International shipping. Please contact us if you want extra services such as insurance or tracking, but note that the extra costs for these services will be paid by the buyer.

I include an invoice with each package that corresponds with the customs form stating the full purchase price of each order. Please be aware your country may charge additional customs duty and/or import taxes.

Please be aware that as the seller I do not pay for any applicable duty, value added taxes (VAT) or import consumption taxes charged to you by your country. The recipient of the merchandise will be required to pay the duty or VAT upon delivery. Due to import duty valuation adjustments and currency valuations, we are unable to provide an estimate for duty or VAT.
