About

What Can You Make With This?

Several years ago a friend and I wander into a bead shop in the Appalachians mountains. The cashier was wearing a handmade necklace out of hammered copper, and I thought, "I can do that!" I had some copper scraps at home to work with and knowing I could make beads that didn't cost me anything appealed to me. From there my jewelry making has bordered on obsession, the need to create is in my blood.

I've made cedar signs for years, so it didn't take long for me to try and utilize the scraps of wood I had laying around and started making wood beads, sometimes painting on them. I've experimented creating fabric beads, and more recently have started working with polymer clay. The jewelry I enjoy making the most comes when I utilize several of these basic materials. I like it when I make something that cost me very little...except time, which is becoming more precious to me each day.

In my youth I did a lot of embroidery, and I relish the memories of leisurely sitting around the fire, crafting and visiting over the long winter months. It is my personal goal to make it back to that place where I can relax in the craft; when I make something it doesn't have to be about profit, but the simple joy of creating something unique and beautiful. And if I can do it from scraps of this, that, and the other thing, ahhh, the greater my enjoyment!

I enjoy being creative and trying out new mediums. I don't seem to have it in me to do one thing, and so you'll never really know what you'll find in my shop until you shop!
