Soy Nate, diseñador digital en Toronto con 20 años de experiencia diseñando interfaces, productos y marcas.
Background Atelier surgió por casualidad. Creaba fondos de pantalla de anime como proyecto paralelo, principalmente por diversión, y la gente no paraba de preguntar dónde podían comprarlos. Una cosa llevó a la otra y la tienda abrió sus puertas. Entonces el mundo cambió su funcionamiento: las reuniones se convirtieron en videollamadas, las oficinas en habitaciones libres y, de repente, la pared detrás de tu cabeza hablaba más que tú.
Noté lo mismo que todos: la mayoría de los fondos virtuales eran pésimos. Habitaciones generadas por IA con estanterías que se derretían. Oficinas con fotos de archivo que parecían deshabitadas. Fondos de pantalla que se pixelaban en cuanto llegaban a una pantalla 4K.
Así que empecé a crear los fondos que me hubiera gustado que existieran. Espacios tranquilos y acogedores. Estanterías que parezcan habitadas por personas que leen. Estudios donde se sienta que alguien trabaja. Fondos de pantalla diseñados por un diseñador, no sacados de una biblioteca de imágenes.
Cada pieza de la tienda está hecha como si fuera un trabajo para un cliente que paga: primero la composición, luego el color, y por último el detalle. Versiones nítidas para los perfeccionistas, versiones con efecto bokeh para quienes prefieren centrarse en sí mismos, no en los estantes que tienen detrás.

I'm Nate — a digital designer in Toronto with 20 years of experience designing interfaces, products, and brands for a living.
Background Atelier started by accident. I'd been making anime wallpapers as a side project, mostly for fun, and people kept asking where they could buy them. One thing led to another, and the shop opened. Then the world changed how it worked — meetings became video calls, offices became spare bedrooms, and suddenly the wall behind your head was doing more talking than you were.
I noticed the same thing everyone noticed: most virtual backgrounds were terrible. AI-generated rooms with melting bookshelves. Stock-photo offices that looked like nobody had ever lived in them. Wallpapers that pixelated the moment they hit a 4K screen.
So I started making the backgrounds I wished existed. Quiet, considered spaces. Bookshelves that look like someone actually reads. Studios that feel like someone actually works there. Wallpapers designed by a designer, not pulled from a stock library.
Every piece in the shop is made the way I'd make work for a paying client — composition first, color second, detail third. Sharp versions for the perfectionists, blurred bokeh versions for the ones who want focus on themselves, not the shelves behind them.
