Ms. Betty's Original is a business started by Scott and Margi Higdon in the fall of 2013. The inspiration for this entire brand is our dear friend Betty. She always says it like it is, and if you get your feelings hurt, you just don't get her.

We have spent a significant amount of time to ensure we are using the best sourced materials, from all natural soy wax, reusable rock glasses (psst, they're whiskey glasses), recycled paper dust caps, and even our all natural lip balm.

There are a few questions people frequently ask, so I thought this might help answer those up front.

Soy candles are made from soybeans, a natural, renewable source grown in many regions by local farmers. Using candles made from soy supports local agriculture and farmers.

Benefits of Soy Candles
A candle made from soy wax burns cleaner with little soot released as the candle burns.

Non-toxic - Soy candles are also non-toxic, so they won't release toxins into the air as they burn.

Last Longer - Soy candles typically last longer than a paraffin candle of the same size, according to Planet Green. The reason behind the longevity of soy candles is the slower burning time and cooler burning temperature of the soybean-based wax. You may pay more for a soy candle initially, but the longer-lasting burn means you won't have to buy new candles as often. Soy wax is also biodegradable, making it an investment that benefits the environment.

Better Scent - Our soy candles have an excellent scent throw -- which is the fragrance you actually smell when the candles are burning. One of the reason is because we use a softer soy wax which allows our candles to burn more slowly than paraffin candles. The longer the burn, the more scent is released.

How big you ask? Okay, we know, size does matter. Our candles come in two sizes, our 11 oz heavy-base rocks glass and once filled with the wax will weigh in at around 1 1/4 lb each and our candles are conservatively rated to burn for 50-65 hours. The other size we offer are the 6 ounce travel candles that come in tin containers. These containers are 1 and 11/16th inches tall and 2 13/16th inches diameter and burn approximately 25-30 hours when following the instructions on the inside of the lid.

Recycle/Upcycle - Once these jars are thoroughly cleaned out, they are great to use for sipping whiskey, bourbon, cola or your favorite beverage. Use as a storage container to keep cotton balls or odds and ends in the bathroom. Think about the possibilities, but please, do not throw in the trash.

Body Butter - Body butter is a skin moisturizer that is thicker than lotions and is extra effective at rejuvenating dry skin, whether used all over or only on problem patches, such as elbows and knees. The best time to apply body butter is just after your daily shower to lock in moisture and keep your skin hydrated all day.

Lip Balm - Our lip balm is all natural and we only use pure essential oils to flavor and come in standard .15 ounce tubes.
