My Story

I've done arts and crafts for as long as I can remember. When I was nine, I crocheted my first handbag as a gift for my 4th grade teacher. It made her cry. Some of my favorite gifts were handmade by my beloved grandmother, Jeanette.

When I was 13, my grandmother invited me and my brother to stay with her in Vermont for several weeks and taught us both how to sew. I loved it so much that she paid for my lessons for several years thereafter. All my prom dresses were handmade. My most ambitious project was a custom designed sequin evening gown that I wore in several beauty pageants.

While art was my passion and hobby, I pursued a career in information technology for 25 years and had a family. I left my last IT job the year that my grandmother passed away, and decided to pursue an artistic endeavor full time.

My design style is classic and timeless, and is meant to carry you gracefully from daytime into evening. I strongly value using sustainable natural fibers, including wool suits, felted merino wool sweaters, denim, and silk ties. Bags often include subtle embellishment with free motion machine embroidery, beads, and / or buttons. Some embellishments are vintage from my childhood or even my grandmother, which gives them special meaning. They are usually one-of-a-kind.

I gladly accept custom orders, and would be delighted to make you something to fit your needs. Clients request something custom because they:
1) aren't satisfied with mass produced items,
2) want a unique gift for someone, or
3) want to preserve precious memories of a loved one (a "memory bag").
You can send materials to include in your handbag or other special project. Message me for details.

I love movies and silly puns, and my shop name is a reference to Lord of the Rings. A few years ago, I even dressed up as Legolas for Halloween.

Non smoking household. We do have two cats, but they don't smoke either and are not allowed in my studio.

I am a huge movie fan, corny joke teller, romantic, artist, and nature lover, not necessarily in that order. If we have even some of these in common, we'll get along just fine. I live with my family and 2 cats in Raleigh, North Carolina.
