About

Inspired by the sea

Bahari Jewelry is inspired by and handcrafted on beautiful Cape Cod. Many of the shells and plants used in the designs are collected during walks on the beaches of the Cape.
As my jewelry reflects the appreciation I have for the beauty of the life and forms found in and around the ocean, it is only fitting to use the name Bahari, the Swahili word for sea.

True to Nature

Bahari Jewelry is centered around being true to nature. The jewelry itself reflects the patterns of the natural shapes, organic forms, and living creatures of and around the sea. Each piece is born of an element that I find particularly meaningful or beautiful. The pieces have an organic feel, not highly refined or polished, staying true to their original shell, clay or wax forms. Bahari Jewelry respects nature and the environment by using recycled materials and responsibly harvested materials whenever available, and recycling materials as much as possible.
The whole shell charms, such as the jingle and slipper shells, are cast in silver from a mold made from an original shell found on the beach. Minimal alterations are made to the shells, generally only smoothing of any rough edges and drilling a hole for hanging. The carved charms are created in jeweler's wax and cast into silver using the lost wax casting method. The shell and plant impression charms are created first in precious metal clay, using handmade molds created from shells and plant life found on the beach.
Jewelry is the most personal accessory you have, worn next to the skin, expressing who you are and what you love. My hope is that one of my pieces will resonate with you, bringing the peace and beauty of the ocean home to you each time you wear it.

A portion of the proceeds for each piece of jewelry sold is donated to marine conservation organizations.

Additional policies and FAQs
Care of jewelry:

Jewelry by its very nature is somewhat fragile and delicate. All Bahari jewelry is made with the strongest and highest quality components the designs will permit. A few basic practices will keep your jewelry looking its best and lasting for many years to come:

Put your jewelry on last, after applying cosmetics, hair spray, and perfume. Jewelry should be removed before sleeping, swimming, showering, dishwashing, and handling any chemicals or cleaners. For safety reasons and to protect the jewelry, jewelry should be removed when engaging in yard work, heavy cleaning, sports, and similar activities.

Sterling silver jewelry should be stored in an airtight container or plastic bag to minimize tarnishing. Sterling may be polished using polishing clothes designed specifically for sterling silver. Do not use a tarnish removing liquid on oxidized jewelry as it will distort or may completely remove the oxidation, changing the look of the piece.

Natural shells and stones included on jewelry pieces are especially fragile and should not be subjected to sharp objects or bumps or they may crack or chip. Use only a soft dry cloth to gently clean shells and stones, and do not use any cleaners or chemicals.
