"Maynard Street," inspired by my photo of houses on a street in northend Halifax, Nova Scotia. I love doing houses.
Afternoon at Darling Lake. My family moved to Darling Lake, about 10 miles from Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, from Vancouver BC in 1990. Culture shock -but a sweet one - to have this view out your kitchen window.

About

The Peace of Art

I'm a self-taught watercolour artist. I love the sea, and live in Halifax, Nova Scotia's capital, in Canada.

I started painting folk art a few years ago, but didn't take it too seriously. In September 2014, on a dare to myself, I took California artist Leslie Saeta's 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge. My medium was acrylic on stretched canvas.

After retiring in December 2015, I began painting in watercolour. I haven't gone back to acrylic since. Watercolour is endlessly fascinating and challenging.

I work from photos, either my own or from the work of photographers I follow on Instagram or other social media, and with their permission I recreate the scene in watercolour.

Usually I lay out the scene in a quick pencil sketch, just to get the main items and perspective in place. I do details in waterproof pen, then paint.

It’s a truly relaxing process, and I try not to worry about how it will come out in the end. Most of the time, to my surprise, I like the end result. You have to know when watercolour has defeated you - but there are times you can give up too early, too!

I've been selling prints and originals at the Halifax Seaport Farmers' Market, 1209 Marginal Road in Halifax, Nova Scotia since August 2016. This year, I’ll be there Saturdays starting June 23 through December 2018.

Hi! Welcome to my Etsy shop!

I'm a watercolour artist. I started painting with acrylics in 2014, and with watercolours in January 2016.

I'm inspired by peaceful scenes of all kinds: landscapes, seascapes, facades and whatever strikes the fancy. I enjoy painting, and will be delighted if you enjoy my work.

Thank you so much for dropping in to my Etsy shop!
