I make beautiful wire wrapped and woven jewelry from raw copper wire.
Hi! My name is Barb Murray, I am a Wife, Mother, Grandmother and owner of BarbWire Designs. I have been an orthodontic assistant for 20+ years so working with wire comes very natural to me!
I make everything by hand except for the linked chains. I now offer Viking Knit chains that are handcrafted. The jump rings, head pins, eye pins, earring hooks, clasps and closures are all made by me from a simple spool of wire.
My jewelry making journey has been a long and varied one. It began when I showed a friend a small collection of beads that I had intended to use in my scrapbooking. Her eyes lit up and she said "let's make bracelets!". So we made bracelets, then we made earrings and even some necklaces! We sold them at local craft fairs and to friends and family. I even did some home parties where the ladies would make their own pieces. What fun!
Circumstances changed as they always seem to do and the beads and string got put away for quite some time. Then I discovered PINTEREST! All of the beautiful jewlery caught my eye and it got me itching to create some of my own. I got all my beading things back out and got to work. I was mostly making necklaces and earrings out of beads and chain until I stumbled onto copper wire! I was hooked! I started researching the subject. I spent countless hours watching YOUTUBE videos and practicing different kinds of wire weaves, resorting to watching funny cat videos when things got frustrating!
I discovered a very talented artist on YOUTUBE who's designs really spoke to me! Her tutorials have and still are helping me develop my skills and find my own voice. Nicole Hannah has really inspired me and I do so hope to meet her one day!
You will find a lot of her designs in my store as well as some of my own designs that are heavily influenced by techniques I have learned by doing her tutorials. So please join me on my journey, there's no telling how far BarbWire Designs can go! I want to do some metalsmithing and enameling... it's going to be fun so stay tuned!
