Announcement   Welcome to the Barbara-Ann Bears Etsy shop, we hope you love the bears.

We are Barbara and Andy Cunningham and we have been making teddy bears as Barbara-Ann Bears since November 1990. We started off making very traditional bears but have since drifted off into a world of whimsical and colourful characters, usually made from hand dyed mohair and with ridiculous, large colourful noses. We like to make people smile, so we hope you smile too.

Our bears have appeared on TV, we made Marigold's bear and George's horse hand puppet for Downton Abbey, and our Fosdyke teddy pattern was used by Anne Rowley in the BBC's 'The Great British Sewing Bee Christmas Special'. Our bears are in several teddy bear museums around the world as well as making special bears for displays in The Titanic Museum in Belfast...it's always a great thrill and honour being asked to do this type of work.

Our bears are made in a smoke free home, they are adult collectables and not toys they are not suitable for children under 14 years old.

If you have any questions, comments or ideas we'd love to hear from, please contact us.

Have fun
Barbara and Andy

PS: We are moving and adding more of our patterns to a new Etsy shop 'MakeATeddy' https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/MakeATeddy

Cezanne is an absolutely exquisite bear - his beautifully colored mohair is breathtaking, not to mention his gorgeous eyes and nose - I couldn't be happier with him! As with all of Barbara-Ann's bears, he has an endearing personality and great charm.

About

We just love making bears, it's a great life

Barbara has made and collected bears since she was a child, these evolved slowly as her skills improved until in 1990 Barbara-Ann Bears was born. To start with they were all traditional designs but gradually we strayed into unexplored territory, further from the beaten track and into the wild jungles.

We love colour and we love to design, we can see that a certain piece of mohair will be great for one bear, or another six pieces might work very well on another, we're not afraid to use high quality faux fur either, there are some great colours, patterns and textures that you can't find in mohair.

We like to make happy bears, to make people smile, to bring colour into the world. But it's the characters that are most important, the faces, the look in the eyes...their soul...something magical happens.

It's a great honour for us that our little creations have found there way into so many homes around the world. We're very, very lucky.

Barbara is the heart and soul of Barbara-Ann Bears...she is 'The Barbara-Ann'. She loves colour, she dyes the mohair, does the sewing, puts in the the eyes and eyelids and keeps the whole show moving forward. Once seen never forgotten...

I'm the one that writes on Etsy, I'm also the one that you might find on a deserted beach in the middle of winter taking photos of teddy bears...I love it! I draw and design, sew the noses and stuff and put the bears together.

Payment
It seems easiest to use Paypal, it's safe and secure and now we're also able to take credit card payments and accept Etsy gift cards.
We know sometimes catastrophes strike so we can be a bit flexible if you have a problem, we get a thrill in seeing our bears go to new homes, so when there's a good reason we try to be helpful, but when people let us down we get pretty deflated, so please be genuine and certain.
Shipping
In the UK we use Royal Mail Special Delivery, it's quick, trackable and there's compensation (eventually) for lost packages.

We use Royal Mail International Signed For or International Tracked and Signed (when available) for international customers, there's also compensation for lost packages.

Customs,Import fees, local taxes etc. are the responsibility of the buyer.
Contact your local Post Office to find out the import rules and charges for your country.
We cannot list items as "gifts" or undervalue items as this is illegal, it amounts to smuggling and tax evasion.

We usually send out our orders on the day they are received, otherwise the following working day. If you are buying more than one item (great!!!) we will be flexible with the shipping costs, ask us.
Additional policies and FAQs
We love to receive custom orders, sometimes people ask us for things we've never considered, a could be a combination of colours or something really off the wall, we made a moose for a greeting card company a long time ago and even a 'lady of the night' bear, a 4 foot tall bear we had to take to a lingerie shop to be fitted. Just don't ask to break somebody's copyright, no Harry Potter bears, no Paddingtons, Yogis...
If you have a shop and want to stock our bears please contact us, we'll be glad to help you.

Frequently asked questions

Wholesale availability

Yes please, get in touch!

Custom and personalised orders

Yes, we love them, we ask for a 50% deposit and once we have started making your item this becomes non-refundable, the balance is paid on completion. Have a long think about exactly you would like us to make and then contact us, we'd love to hear from you.

Care instructions

Do not wash the bears! You can clean them using a dry cloth, brush or duster, just don't get them wet. Moth prevention sachets are a good idea to protect all your fabric items.

Gift wrapping and packaging

This isn't really our strong point, but if it isn't yours either or if opening the parcel is going to be a big surprise we'll have go, we can put bears inside gift bags and we're always happy to include a special card for a special occasion, just let us know.
