Announcement   Welcome to my shop. I am in love with learning, growing, and creating. I learn more with each new thing I make and get great joy that each item will go to someone who loves them as much as I love making them. I work from my home in a smoke free environment. I regularly put up new items, please keep checking back or convo me about an idea. New theaters are being made all the time, keep checking. If you don't see something that you know I make like gourd lamps or thunder drums, contact me and together we will see what can be done.

About

Why Can't I Just Make One?

The origin of my shop started over half a century ago. I'm pleased with myself because I just told you I'm older, someone called it seasoned, I've always made things and lots of everything. I'm obsessive about making, continually looking to improve, and I get great satisfaction in a job well done. I also have the thrill and wonder of a child when it comes to possibilities.

During those years of freedom in my twenties, I made and sold to keep myself going, then came the year as an adult when I did adult thing. You know, the kind of grown-up stuff like raising children and building a career. I still kept making only on a smaller scale. I wouldn't change a thing, but then I RETIRED and could let my obsessions and compulsions carry me away. I realized quickly I needed to market what I made and became a vendor. I found a whole new family in that community.

Yep, I'd have to say I certainly am an obsessive person. Making one isn't enough. I consider the first one a prototype, so I keep making more and more. I love every single one I make, be it a baby carrier, puppet, puppet theater, gourd, masks, play mats, blanket or whatever.

I get great satisfaction in completing an item know that it is well made, built to last as well as adorable. I am continually working towards better efficiency but never shortcuts. I design and create all my own pattern and they just keep getting better and better.

One of the many thrills in my life is to find just the right fabric that I can save from an unkind fate and use to make something useful that someone will love. I prefer using repurposed and/or up-cycled fabrics. Some of the thrift shops around here know me by name.

I started a blog in March on 2014 in hopes that some of my years of experience and wonder will be able to give others a glimpse into the life of an obsessive make. It would be great if I could teach or comfort someone along the way.

Welcome to Barbara's Handcrafts. I love to create and see the things I make go to someone you will be able to use them and love them as much as I love creating them. After many years of raising a family and working daily, I now am able to go back to my first love of art and craft and sewing. Each item I make has been tested, so the design works and is easy to use and clean and will hold up is used as intented. My home is smoke free and cluttered with fabrics, yarns, threads, paints, dyes, gourds and any variety of art supplies and I love it that way. If I can make you something special, contact me and we can talk.
