How Barb's Pet Project Began
This story began when a granddaughter asked her Grandma if she could make her a UW Husky scarf for her dog. She found a pattern and made a few adjustments. She then decided to find Christmas material and make matching scarves for all of her grand-dogs. After making them she noticed that all their family friends began to want one too.
It was here that one of us got the idea to turn this into a little weekend business and sell at Farmers Markets. One she got this idea in her head she convinced the rest of the family to join.
After the first few months we decided that we wanted to take our project in a certain direction to become a non-profit. We decided that we would donate 50 cents for every scarf we sell to a local pet charity. To date we have donated thousands of dollars to local charities including the Old Dog Haven; Tacoma Humane Society; Federal Way Humane Society; Quincy Animal Shelter; Auburn Valley Humane Society, P.A.W.S. in Quincy, WA; and many more.
In addition to our monetary donations we donate product to various facilities as well. The goal being to put scarves on both dogs and cats to draw attention to them to help with their adoption. The colorful scarves have even been photographed in local newspaper including the Tacoma News Tribune.
In the end, our goal is to provide animals with a way to celebrate holidays, sports, and even just everyday occasions. If we have to get dressed up for events shouldn't our pets?
