I have loved basket weaving since I made the first one.

I always enjoyed needlework, drawing, and other arts. In 1980, while working in sales and moonlighting as a Calligraphy teacher in Concord, NC, I saw an egg basket and knew I had to make one. I traded calligraphy lessons for some basket weaving lessons and I was hooked.

A couple of months later I moved to South Carolina and decided to make baskets for a living. I started teaching basket weaving classes at the local community colleges and attended craft shows all over North and South Carolina. My baskets have won numerous awards through the years. The thing that amazes me most is that with all the baskets I've made, I still find things I haven't tried yet and am constantly inspired by baskets I see around me.

After a couple of years of teaching, we decided to open a mail-order basket weaving supply store, August Moon Basketry, and we ship materials to other basket weavers all over the country. With the supply company flourishing, I did not have the time to continue teaching basket weaving and weaving baskets, so I "retired" as a teacher, but still love creating the baskets.

You can visit my basket weaving supply website at:
While there, you can find lots of information on custom baskets by clicking the "Baskets Handcrafted by Mona" link.

I have been making and designing baskets since 1980 and I still love the the whole process. It's a great thrill to create something beautiful that can also be so useful. I don't let decoration get in the way of a strong basket.

Returns and exchanges
If the basket is damaged when it arrives please keep the packaging and box and let me know. The shipper may want to examine the shipping carton. I do a great job of protecting my baskets during shipping, but the unexpected can always happen. I will refund or replace any damaged items.

If you are unhappy with your purchase and want to return it, you may do so within 21 days of the purchase date. The basket must be in new condition. Shipping costs to you and back to me cannot be refunded.
I accept Etsy and PayPal.

Let me know if you prefer PayPal and I will send an email request for payment. You do not have to have a PayPal account to pay this way.
I use US Post Office Priority Mail most of the time. I will use UPS if it saves you money on your shipping costs. Insurance and a nominal packing fee is included in your shipping. Also, please let me know if you want to have the basket sent to your home or do you want it sent to your Post Office and held for you to pick it up. If you don't choose one, I will assume that you want it sent to your home.

It seems that UPS is much more affordable to people who are west of the Mississippi, so if you'd like to know how much it would cost to ship a basket or two by UPS, send me an email with your zip code and telling me which baskets you'd like and I can email you back an estimate. When shipping charges are overpaid, I do enclose a refund in the box with the basket, or I would be happy to include everything you want in a listing especially for you. We can work out the details through messaging.

Make sure I have the correct address because this saves all of us trouble and money.
Additional policies and FAQs
The measurements on already-made baskets are very close, I usually round up to the nearest 1/4".

Custom-orders are welcome and I will do my best to get very close to the size you are expecting.

If you are interested in any basket handles, bases, or other supplies, send me an email asking if I have them in inventory and I'll get back to you with a price if I do.

If you'd like to buy a couple of listings and want them shipped together to save on shipping costs, just send me an email with a list of all the items you would like. I'll put them together in a listing with the correct shipping costs and post it at a time that is convenient for you.
