Future Sculpture

I started to design for 3D printing in the mid-90's, when I realized that traditional sculpture methods would never do what I want. It was a silly way to work for a long, long time, but slowly the technology has advanced, and eventually everything worked out. Today's prints are true craft-quality artifacts, made of steel and precious metals, in shapes that are simply impossible to make by any other means.
Here are some of my designs from the history to the present of this amazing technology. I make sculpture, jewelry and housewares; some of these are pure geometry and some are hand drawn. Most are somewhere between, in the wide wandering between math and art.
I apologize for the vague description of the company that does my steel printing - we're old friends and they like to keep a low profile. They're the same people who do all of the steel materials for Shapeways. (I introduced them.)
This store is a new venture for me, and I'll be adding more items week by week.
Thanks for visiting! These are my happy places, and I hope you enjoy them too.

I'm a sculptor, or designer, working mainly in CAD/CAM media. Mostly 3D printing in steel but many other styles as I get interested in things. I've been doing this over 20 years now, never a dull moment really.

Production partners

  • Boston Ceramics

    Southborough, MA

3D printed ceramics are still uncommon, even if this is the future, and a supplier that does them well is a very rare beast. I especially like this manufacturer's soft palette of low-fire glazes, developed specially for the process.

  • a steel printing service

    PA, United States

A steel printer isn't the kind of machine you want in your living room, or even your garage. It's better to have experts running it, and I work with the best: I'm proud to be friends with the guys who do most of the steel printing on this planet.

  • Shapeways

    New York, NY

A 3D printing service that renders my designs in precious metals.
