About

BECOMING A FIBER ARTIST

I guess this all started after I had my second child. Being a stay-at-home mom, I love taking care of my children very much but, wanted to still be able to use my creativity. I always loved to shop in local stores and found handmade items so charming. I wanted to be a part of that.

Soap making became my first love in which that opened even more doors and I found myself sitting in front of my Mac one day with a crochet hook and some yarn. "Crochet for Beginners' was playing I had my eyes glued to the screen. It wasn't easy at first, and I actually didn't realize I HAD to count stitches until my 3rd week into it (lol) but, I became very comfortable with it and started to sell Amigurumi, hats, blankets anything that could possibly be made with yarn. I sold to mostly friends, and family until I was told about Etsy.

I opened my shop in the summer of 2013. At first I sold mainly stuffed animals, and hats, but as time went on, my ideas and interests expanded. I started to become curious about hand-dyeing yarn. I can honestly say, nothing gives me greater joy then to be a fiber artist. My background in the arts, and a second concentration in marketing/advertising, helped me propel BEACH BUM YARN (formerly FIBERWORKS) which is my one-of-a-kind hand-dyed yarn. I have been a fiber artist for almost 3 years now. I use only acid dyes and high-end beautiful yarn bases.

My dyeing style produces bright and vibrant colors. I tend to lean towards the fluorescents & eye popping combos. I always look at a blank skein of yarn as a canvas waiting to be painted. Being an abstract painter as well, I incorporate my eye for the obscure and unique with all of my colorways.

The Process- I usually work on orders as they come in since my workshop is in my home. (except during holidays) I do pride my business on customer communication as well. I to am a consumer and know the frustrations that can arise when dealing with unsatisfactory companies. I will always respond to your questions in a timely manner and make your order with love. :)

Thank you for your order!!! It was a pleasure doing business with you! I hope to see you again soon! Please take a moment and review your experience with me!

Hand-Dyed Yarn policy-No two hanks are alike. Beach Bum Yarn hand paints most of it's color ways which results in random, original dyes. This is part of the beauty of hand dyeing. If you are ordering multiple hanks, I will try to get them as close as possible since they will be dyed at the same time. Most of my items are on a MADE-TO-ORDER basis unless specified, or in the open stock category which will ship immediately. If you order a made-to-order and an open stock item at the same time, your order will ship out in 1-2 weeks. All yarn is dyed with professional grade acid dyes, pre-soaked in a citric acid, or distilled vinegar and water solution. Yarn is then carefully rinsed and soaked in a special detergent to eliminate excess dye. It is recommended to hand wash your yarn in COLD water (either in it's received state or when you have finished a project using the yarn). Please use mild soap to wash your yarn and dry flat. I try my very best to wash out excess dye, but in some cases, and certain colors, bleeding will occur. This is not the fibers losing color, it is just excess. Your yarn has been set using high heat and the colors have locked into the fibers.

*****SOAP PRODUCTS*****

********Please take notice when ordering soap during the hotter months of the year. Soap may "sweat" during transit. They have been wrapped in a brown wax paper for protection but, this effect is unavoidable in extreme temperatures. *******

Accepted payment methods

  • Accepts Etsy Gift Cards and Etsy Credits
Returns and exchanges
I gladly accept cancellations
Request a cancellation within: 1 hour of purchase
I don't accept returns or exchanges
But please contact me if you have any problems with your order.
I do not accept returns on yarn, *unless the error is mine (shipping out wrong base, color by mistake). Once yarn is received and is in the same state as it was shipped out , (if you have caked the yarn I cannot refund or return) you will then be granted an even exchange, or return.
I will not refund if yarn has been tampered with, has been exposed to smoke, animal hair, bugs, or has been partially worked up. Yarn needs to be in it's twist with original tag.
If under extraordinary circumstances, your order is damaged during transit, I will work with you to resolve the issue. This would result in an even exchange, and I will cover the return/shipping fees.
Please message me if there is a problem other than what has been stated.

Thank you :)
