Announcement
The basic function of the Beat Blocks is to provide students a concrete manipulative to aid in introducing and comprehending the abstract concepts of steady beat, beat versus rhythm, note subdivisions, the layering of musical elements that create a complete musical work. It also serves as an aid in assessing students’ understanding of rhythmic complexities.
I use Mega Bloks Maxi blocks to make these, purchased in stores or online. One pack of 80-100 blocks will make you at least 2 sets. If you're unable to purchase blocks to make your own or have specific needs, feel free to contact me and I can gather the materials and make them for you for a small fee.
Beat Blocks lessons are compiled in a method book complete with original lessons and guides for implementation. Check my website for more information and the link to purchase the newly-released method book from Heritage Music Press!

5 out of 5 starsWe had some issues with printing and the seller was fantastic making sure we had labels we could use to create our beat blocks. As a musician I am really looking forward to using these with my kids!

3 out of 5 starsThis is a great idea, but I am annoyed that I paid $10 for very little rhythm combinations and no unbarred single eighths or sixteenths. Not worth the $10. Ideas for using legos/mega blocks for this type of activity in various settings have been around for a while. These labels are just overpriced.

5 out of 5 starsI am so thrilled with this tool! I started using it my first day of band lessons this year and it clicked with the students IMMEDIATELY. What an amazing, concrete tool to help students grasp note values.

Beat Blocks® - Building Musical Minds
I made my first set of Beat Blocks as a visual manipulative to use in my classroom, and when the kids asked to play with them, how could I say no? So I made a ton of sets, found them to be very helpful for composition, dictation, and discovering new rhythmic possibilities, and the kids helped me to find ways to use them to teach melody, countermelody, dynamics, and chord structure all with Mega Blocks. Now I have a website, shop, and officially own the trademark! They're now being used in several countries (Abu Dhabi, Australia, Canada, to name a few), and all over the USA. They're being featured in Orff certification courses and workshops through the midwest and the east coast. Make your own or I'll make them for you, it doesn't matter, but try out this fun new way to "build musical minds"!
