Storytelling has long been an integral part of culture. People have always been fond of tradition and are very protective of their heritage, particularly surrounding the celebration of Christmas. Often credited with introducing the Christmas tree to the world, the German people's stories and holiday customs are the foundation of the legends that accompany many Christmas ornaments today.
Centuries ago, in tiny villages throughout the German countryside, parents amused their children on cold wintry nights with the telling of magical stories and fairy tales. These stories, often repeated many times over the years, became an inherent part of children's lives and memories. As they grew, they too passed these stories on to their own children, creating a legacy of cultural pride and family traditions.
Christmas ornament legends were first introduced to the American collector with the whimsical story of the pickle ornament. The tradition of hiding a pickle ornament in the tree and wait for the first child to discover it.
