Drawing with yarn.

I’m Becky and this is my shop where I design, create and send items to you, all with my own fair hands. I’m based in a Victorian terrace in Norwich, UK where I try to surround myself with things that I find interesting or that bring back a memory of something whether it’s the old slush puppy cup I keep pens in (from the time Will took me to London Dungeons for Valentines) or the first amigurumi yokai I made, always staring at me with a little scowl. Both my illustration and crochet work are generally inspired by things I see around me whether it’s people, patterns, books, myths, documentaries, nature or memories.

I’ve always drawn and made things and knew I never wanted a ‘regular 9-5’ type job so without any idea how drawing could really be how I made my wages I spent four years at university studying Illustration and although I’m glad I went I’d say I definitely did most of my learning afterwards.

It was a little while after I graduated that I decided to put this no 9-5 plan into action and decided to open an online shop. It started on my website but I soon realised I needed more of an audience so I moved over here to Etsy. It was also around this time that I started drawing more than I ever had at uni and I also picked up a crochet hook and haven’t looked back.

I spend my time drawing and crocheting or as my boyfriend puts it I’m an illustrator who sometimes uses yarn instead of a pen. I design all my own patterns. I get so much satisfaction from working through the entire process and making things that really are mine. My crochet design process is pretty much vague scribbled plan, crochet, unravel, crochet until I get the piece to be just right.
The main difference between the two disciplines is that for my illustration, although I use my sketchbook anywhere, I really need to be sat at my desk to produce a finished piece whereas with crochet I can set myself up anywhere, surround myself with anything I might need and work till I get a dead leg. I really enjoy the differences in the two processes while also seeing lots of similarities that keep me loving both.

I try to make things that I know I would want rather than following any particular trends, knowing that there must be other people out there looking for similar things. I often get people assuming some of my work is for children, which always throws me because that’s not how I see it. I’ve never designed anything with kids in mind but if they like it too then the more the merrier! My aim is to make things that add a little extra fun, comfort or interest to our surroundings. Not everything needs to be just practical, who says that being a responsible adult means you can’t keep your phone in a pop tart or send pretty cards for no reason other than to say ‘hi, look at this pretty card’ or read zines that are about nothing more than a little peek into how someone else sees everyday things.

I’m a firm believer in each to their own, if you like it, you like it, you can’t be wrong.

Hi. I'm Becky, currently living in Norwich, UK with my arty boyfriend and more random bits and bobs than we have space for but it makes for an interesting place to work and live. I've drawn and made things since I remember and don't plan on stopping.

I post items on Wednesday each week. If I'm able I often post as soon as I can but for reference, Wednesday is my posting day.

Items will be posted once I have received payment.
All postage costs are covered by the buyer (unless otherwise stated).

Items are sent from the U.K. first class with Royal Mail.
First Class Royal Mail items are estimated (by Royal Mail) to take 1-2 days to arrive once I have posted them.
Any items sent outside the U.K. are sent by Airmail.
Airmail items are estimated to take 3 days to reach Western Europe, 5 days to Eastern Europe and 7 days to the rest of the world.
These are the estimates as stated by the Royal Mail for the item to arrive in the country but be mindful that international mail can sometimes take up to 4 - 6 weeks to actually arrive with you due to customs checks.

**I now offer shipping upgrades. If you're outside of the UK I strongly suggest you use the tracked service and there is also a signed for option within the UK.**

I try my best to get the postage prices correct for the listings but if it turns out I've over charged (particularly with multiple items in one order) I will refund the extra postage costs.

If you'd like a different kind of postage send me a message about it and I'll see what I can do but make sure you ask before buying the item.

If information you want isn't mentioned here don't hesitate to send me a message.
