Robyn O’Boyle illuminates souls with her line of 100% natural, locally sourced, pure beeswax candles.

BeeLuminous Taos was born from Robyn’s calling in the world: to offer visionary-based holistic health experiences and spiritual support. She has practiced for over 45 years and is the sole owner of Empowering Alchemy.

Candle making emerged in her life after sustaining a "mild" brain injury after which she was unable to practice natural medicine for a period of time. Then, two important events coincided in 2013. First, Robyn adopted a beehive and started learning about the magical world of bees. Next, a friend gave her some candle making supplies and imparted the basics of paraffin candle making.

As a holistic clinician and an urban beekeeper, Robyn immediately knew that the toxic wax used in historic candle making could not be a part of her new venture. She quickly acknowledged that beeswax would be the key.

Robyn has a strong personal connection to locally sourcing as much as possible, whether food, products, or manufacturing materials, so she set out to find local and regional bee farmers who could provide the volume of pure beeswax she would need for the quality and quantity of products she planned to create. “Often,” Robyn recalls, “I was making parking lot deals with beekeepers, or meeting on the side of the road between farming communities to buy wax.”

At the same time, she started to procure more interesting, detailed, and exotic molds that better represented her view of the world. For instance, she found molds from the 1920's in pewter that were originally for candy and molds from artisans in Latvia, Russia, and the U.S. that are unique, and create beautiful candles.

In keeping with her commitment to environmental sustainability, she discovered the best harmless wicking materials. Robyn experimented with fabricating her creations at different times of the year since the season and location from where the bees gathered various flowering plants impacts wax color and aroma. These nuances are delightfully expressed in each candle.

Melding her holistic health background with the art form of beeswax candle making, Robyn consistently creates high-quality products that nourish body, mind, and soul. This process has been both healing and nourishing for the practitioner turned artist and entrepreneur. “It has been an unexpected adjunct journey and the bees continue to provide gifts that teach me about community, healing, and love.”

Her company name, BeeLuminous Taos, is an homage to the brilliant light that is unique to the Land of Enchantment and to her love of bees, their elegance and gifts. Elegantly detailed candles are individually and small batch handcrafted from the finest locally and regionally sourced pure beeswax. Their light brings the natural warmth of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains in northern New Mexico to any home and every body.
