About

Beer for Your Walls

In 1998, I began painting with coffee after a sudden idea in a coffee shop. That worked so well that eventually it occurred to me to try other things. Beer was an obvious next step, since I here in Bend, Oregon I am surrounded by more breweries (per capita) than any other town in the U.S. I love to taste each brewery's porters and stouts and then try them as paint.

Just 'playing with my food' has led to worldwide opportunities; I've been sent to London to do a live beer painting ad for Cobra Beer, painted at festivals in Dubai, Croatia, and around the U.S.

I travel any chance I get but always love returning home to my studio and shop, The Workhouse, here in Bend. 8 fellow artists share a beautiful brick warehouse which 100 years ago was the hub of Bend's main industry- logging. The Old Mill is now a shopping mall, but the hum of hard work still goes on in our lofty space. Come visit- it's right next to the tastiest and most charming bakery in town (The Sparrow). I teach classes each month as well; come drink and paint with me!

Additional policies and FAQs
Q. What is the best way to frame my print?
A. I often frame my prints without a mat, in a dark wood or wood with subtle gold accents. You can find a great selection of ready-made frames at stores like Michael's or Hobby Lobby. The white border with hand torn edges also looks nice when laid on a darker mat and framed.

Q. How can I get an original painting instead of a print?
A. I love to do custom work and have done everything from pet portraits to company logos. Please email me at beerpainter [!at] gmail.com with your ideas. I will soon have more photos showing current unsold original paintings and will be listing them in this new etsy store, but for now, please feel free to email me about any painting you see here.

Q. Beer is an unusual medium; will it last over time?
A. In the 5 years I have been painting with beer, I have not seen any fading or changing in a finished painting. I do spray my original paintings with a UV protective sealer and varnish.

Q. Do you offer wholesale prices?
A. I do offer reseller options; please contact me for more information.

Q. What beer do you paint with?
A. Almost any dark porter or stout- send me a bottle of your favorite brew and I'll give it a shot!
